During a trip to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang talked about forming an ultimate Nvidia and India partnership. A few months in, that partnership is growing into AI chip development by capitalizing on India’s burgeoning technology sector and the talent pool in semiconductor design. The development of these chips will fuel India’s AI mission. The Indian government has set aside $1.2 billion to construct data centers that are essential for sustaining AI systems and promoting the technologies for this mission. On the other hand, being one of the biggest markets, India is crucial for Nvidia’s Chip future. Although talks to facilitate this goal are in the early stage, the costs, use cases and benefits of the Nvidia AI chips are currently being discussed by the government. One possible use for the new chip could be in the Kavach security system of the Indian Railways chain.

Nvidia is now the second most valuable corporation in the world, right behind Apple, with a market value of $3.39 trillion. The main reason for Nvidia's success is its graphics chips, which are crucial for enabling AI technology. Considering that a significant portion of chip designers are Indians, working for various international organizations, Nvidia plans to utilize their expertise together with the strength of private and public sector firms to help with the customization of its upcoming chips. The chip giant’s leader, Jensen Huang, believes that the country’s AI potential could greatly advance the creation of this technology. He shared that AI opens up numerous avenues that encourage progress and the flow of creativity for the country.

The chip giant expanded its partnership plan with the country by forging new alliances with companies, namely Reliance, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, and others. Additionally, through its very first AI summit in the country, it announced goals that it has planned to accomplish with these companies by blending its expertise with theirs. During the summit, Jensen emphasized how Nvidia has come a long way from making breakthroughs in advanced computing and that it is able to continue the momentum through the power of AI. He appreciated the booming potential of the country that could accelerate the application of AI. At the same time, he made it clear that the nation’s diverse language landscape could be a possible barrier against the same.

Nvidia’s interest in India happens to align with the trend among other global companies like Microsoft and Meta. Most of them are already working with the country, acknowledging its expanding economy and caliber to be a global hub for the development of AI.

Nvidia and Reliance to Set Up AI Infrastructure in India

During the summit, Jensen and Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani spoke about using the expertise of both companies to develop an AI infrastructure in India. The two leaders’ conversation emanated their commitment, which goes beyond partnerships and infrastructure, to drive the creation of an innovative ecosystem in India. They said that the AI infrastructure could lead to groundbreaking applications that will change industries worldwide, while highlighting the significance of AI in influencing the future. The Reliance Industries’ Chairman believes in making AI affordable and available to every citizen in the country. 

Both leaders additionally talked about creating an indigenous large language model that is suited for generative AI applications and trained on the country's many languages.

Ambani talked about how intelligence could be used to bring equality and prosperity to everyone on the planet.

 

He gave an example of India’s excellent digital connectivity infrastructure outside of the US and China, in support of this goal.

Nvidia and Tata Communications Are Building AI Cloud Infrastructure

The first phase of Tata Communications' goal of establishing an AI Cloud infrastructure with Nvidia is due for launch by the end of this year. If achieved, Tata Communications could become one of the nation's biggest Nvidia Hopper GPU cloud-based supercomputers from this partnership.

Nvidia and Tech Mahindra to Advance India’s AI Capabilities

Tech Mahindra struck a strategic deal with Nvidia to advance India's AI capabilities and address challenges presented by the nation's linguistic landscape. The two are expected to build an AI Center of Excellence (CoE) in India to create cutting-edge AI models that are suited to the linguistic variety of the nation, with a focus on many languages.

By tapping in on Nvidia’s expertise, the AI Centre of Excellence could promote developments in agentic, physical, and sovereign large language model (LLM) frameworks. The CoE will use the Nvidia AI Enterprise software platform, which comprises technologies like Nvidia RAPIDS for data analytics and Nvidia NeMo for language model construction. These tools could help make customized, enterprise-grade AI programs that can reason, learn, and respond, which is said to be a concept known as agentic AI. The center would also create physical AI applications and networked industrial AI digital twins using the Nvidia Omniverse platform.

Several Partnership Deals With Indian Companies

Many Indian companies have joined hands with Nvidia, including Zoho Corporation, L&T Technology Services (LTTS), Infosys, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). 

Starting with TCS, the partnership will target sectors like manufacturing, banking, financial services & insurance (BFSI), telecom, retail, and automotive to develop and provide AI adoption strategies.

Sridhar Vembu's Zoho Corp is said to use Nvidia's AI accelerated computing platform, which includes Nvidia NeMo, to develop and implement large language models (LLMs) in its software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications. Zoho also has plans to make more investment in Nvidia's AI technology and GPUs next year, and it has previously spent over $10 million.
