Established in 1957, Manipal Institute of Technology is one of the best private institutes in India. The college offers Bachelors and Masters program in Engineering streams. A degree from the campus will open up multitude of opportunities for candidates. In 2000, it became a constituent institute of the deemed university Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). The institute offers 18 BTech programs in various streams. Students need to earn 170 credits in order to qualify for the degree. The Students Life Cycle Management (SLCM) platform provides online access to academic information for all stakeholders. MIT also undertakes various research programs supported by funding agencies, such as DST, CSIR, AICTE and the Ministry of Environmental Sciences. It has collaborative research programs in partnership with premier research laboratories and institutes in India as well as abroad.

The institute has an innovation centre that encourages entrepreneurial talents among students. The Institute
has state-of-the-art audiovisual teaching facilities and supports world class sports facilities with its indoor sports complex called Marena. Thus, the campus promotes recreation activities along with academics. The campus is dotted with sports facilities such as the Student Recreational Centre (two tennis courts, two badminton courts and a gym), two basketball court, a cricket/athletics field, a volleyball court, a football ground, a hockey field, and a swimming pool.The campus is located 65 km north of Mangalore, 3.5 km from Udupi railway station and is spread over an area of 188 acres housing 10 academic buildings, and 22 residential buildings, with a total capacity of 6,080 inhabitants.

The college was ranked 21 among engineering colleges in India by India Today in 2020 and offers excellent placement facilities. MIT has a well organised placement team that works proactively to place the students into the profiles of their preference. On an average, over 250 companies visit the campus for placements and internship recruitment every year, including many prominent companies like Deloitte, Accenture, Amazon, IBM, Volvo, Microsoft and others.
