After the pandemic-ridden two years, the hiring scenario in India is finally changing for the better. Consulting, technology, and BFSI sectors once again dominate the placement landscape. The top business schools and technology institutions in the country manifested their mettle. IIT Dhanbad is well positioned in the front row. Formerly the Indian School of Mines, IIT Dhanbad has manifested a good track record in placements ever since then.
According to the data published by the institute, in 2019-20, a total of 756 students participated, and 537 (71.03 percent) were placed. The total number of participating students increased to 784 in 2020-21, and 555 (UG – four years) students were placed. In the academic year 2021-22, there was a commendable hike in the percentage of students registered for placements, reaching an impressive 88 percent. This increased the number of students placed—716 out of 811 participants from the UG four-year programs secured placements. However, the latest academic year witnessed a slight dip in the IIT ISM Dhanbad placement percentage for the 2022-23 batch, standing at 85.53 percent, with 662 out of 774 students getting offers.

The institute was established in 1926 by the British Indian Government on the lines of the Royal School of Mines London. On 25 May 2016, the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved to amend the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961, to convert ISM Dhanbad into an Indian Institute of Technology. We dedicate this yearly special issue to the prestigious alumni of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. Do let us know your thoughts.
