The National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) started 2024 by celebrating its On January 20, 1988, students graduated from NIT Rourkela, including 457 female & 1531 male students. Polavarapu Mallikharjuna Prasad, Chairman-cum Managing Director of Coal India Limited, was the chief guest at the convocation ceremony. Addressing the ceremony, he said, “The growing Indian economy promises a brighter future for young engineers. Globalization means additional job opportunities. Because of its vast andhighly talented human resources, India has become a
favorite destination for many MNCs to set up their production lines in the country. The future is bright, and you are part of that future in India,".

A press release from NIT Rourkela says that eight students received the Institute Gold Medal, and five received the Endowment Gold Medal. There were also seven Endowment Winners, one was given a Rs. 1,00,000 endowment prize for being the Top Student Research Scholar for 2023.

The outgoing batch has also set new benchmarks in achieving campus placements. NIT Rourkela received the highest number of job offers during last year's campus placements. According to the information shared by the institute, more than 330 companies awarded about 1,534 job offers. About 24 graduates got an annual package of more than ₹50 lakh and eight of them got ₹52.89 lakh per year. The average CTC (cost to company) went up by 16 percent from ₹11.15 LPA last year to ₹12.95 LPA in 2022-2023. The average CTC of B.Tech graduates this year is ₹14.22 LPA.
