Tell us about your educational back ground and experiences.
After completing my MBBS from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), New Delhi, I interned and worked as Junior Resident in the institute itself. During my tenure there between 2002 and 2006, I was posted in various departments like CTVS, emergency medicine, blood bank, psychiatry and others. Subsequently, I moved to Singapore and started working in internal medicine training for five years at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. I also did my post graduation diploma in diabetes from Cardiff University, Wales(UK).

What inspired you to choose medicine as your career
Necessity has been the mother of my passion. Hailing from a small
town I had to always travel to another town for medical needs. Most people had to travel long distances and wait for long hours to get treatment. I have realized that healthcare is a sector with a lot of demands and gaps. And have seen people struggling for good healthcare and hygienic facilities. I entered into the field to do my part of the contribution, which became the core driving force behind my professional journey so far.

A science practitioner and a spiritual speaker, Amit is an admired personality in the healthcare industry

Having nearly two decades of experience as a diabetologist. How, in your opinion, has the field of diabetology evolved in India over the years?
India is a country with a great prevalence of diabetes. One out of every eleven are suffering from diabetes. However, only 20 to 30 percent are having good control of diabetes, and more than 75% of the population face severe complications. We don't have a lot of specialist doctors when compared to a load of patients. I believe that there is a need for more doctors. Diabetology is a charming and result oriented profession that saves lives. Here, there is a huge opportunity to grow and learn new technological advances and options enabling us to help more people.

Could you tell us about the unique services that are provided by your diabetes clinic that make it stand out from the rest of the market?
We value patients’ time and don’t make them wait even a single minute. Unlike usual clinics with a walk-in model, we work based on appointments so that the patients don’t have to wait for a long time.

Patients can set the appointment time on my website or through android mobile app according to their own convenience. They can cancel it or reschedule it as per preferences. They don't have to call or don't have to come to the clinic. We also offer a provision for video call consultation for the application for convenience.

I personally believe that convenience and quality of care is the key component of the right medical services. To deliver services that meet essential quality criteria,
there are three crucial factors to consider. Firstly, the healthcare sector is ever-evolving, and it is important to stay aware and updated on all the innovations and technology. The second vital element is to attract the right clinical mind. The third and most essential aspect I strongly believe in is personalized care. A one-size-fits-all approach seldom works in healthcare, and leaders need to employ flexibility in addressing complex situations. Each one enters a hospital with different expectations. We should understand their concern from the roots instead of treating a person like just another patient.

Going forward, what are the changes in industry that you anticipate?
With the advancement and information available at their fingertips, people have become more health aware and highly discerning about the lifestyle choices being made; but is mostly hard to sustain a good lifestyle. There is a lot more effort being put into choosing the right kind of food and exercising. People are consulting nutritionists and dieticians, and actively searching for credible information on the internet. As much as it’s true, it is also evident that all the people need timely and right services for which there is a lack of specialists. Choosing a trustworthy specialist is crucial and at the same time, extra effort is always needed. The country should be proactive in its approach so that our time and efforts are not wasted by factors like the lack of skilled specialists. Moreover, I believe that there is going to be more research and progress within the segment for the cure control and relief.
