Recording a CAGR of 9.5% during 2022-2026, the construction industry in India is expected to grow steadily over the next four quarters. With a notion of catering to the needs of the housing sector which is a business proposition as well as serves a noble cause, Rahul Joshi (Director, Durastrong Cement) decided to venture into the business of cement and other construction materials to cater to the growing demands of the construction sector. Since his family has been in the Cement industry for the last three decades, Rahul is well-aware of the distinctive nuances of the industry and he believes his high standards of performance are imbibed in him by the virtue of his family.

How would you define Durastrong Cement as an organization and its position in the market? What is the unique proposition that your organization offers to its clients?
With quality and customer service in our DNA, we at Durastrong Cement are committed to delivering value to our customers. Our entire organization is customer-centric with a laser sharp focus on the needs of the customers, we have set units for AAC blocks, paver blocks, and fly ash bricks, in addition to the
initially envisioned product Cement. We are exclusively catering to the evolving needs of customers with Ordinary Portland Cement, Portland Pozzolana Cement, Portland Slag Cement, and Portland Composite Cement. Apart from that, AAC blocks, Paver blocks, and Fly ash bricks are instrumental in carrying forward our voyage of customer service with modern and ecofriendly products that promote the cause of sustainability.

While maintaining a sharp focus on the needs of individual house builders, we are serving large institutional buyers as well, like L&T, URC Constructions, Rourkela Smart City, and so on. We are proud to proclaim that, Durastrong Cement is a major supplier of construction materials to the prestigious International Hockey Stadium project at Rourkela.

Why did you choose Odisha to be the breeding ground of your company? How has the state favored you so far in your operations?
Apart from being enormously rich in mineral resources, Odisha is widely acknowledged for having a favorable industrial environment coupled with supportive government policies. The mindset of government machinery is to help set up industries, which exclusively favors the pioneering industrialists to envisage their future endeavors. This has been the biggest factor behind choosing Odisha to be the launching place of our company’s business voyage.

What are the challenges you have encountered so far and how did you overcome them?
Establishing a new brand was a tough task in the existing highly volatile and complex market scenario. But because of our consistency, we have managed to maintain a synchronized relationship with our channel partners in terms of quality, lead time, and relationships. Our unperturbed determination to deliver quality products to our customers is the reason behind all of our milestones so far.

Of course, we had to face the challenge of COVID in our initial days, but we were able to overcome that phase by God’s grace and firm
commitments by the excellent team of professionals we are having. The spectrum of our team ranges from bright young enthusiasts in their twenties to grey hair legends with 30+ years of experience in the field of business management. Equipped with such prolific professionals in our team, we are certain about overcoming the challenges that are yet to knock on our door in the future as well. I believe the team we are having is our biggest asset and is capable of accomplishing the objectives of the organization.

What drives you today as an industry leader? What is your success mantra?
Customer satisfaction and positive remarks from the customers are my driving force. It gives me immense pleasure when I am able to make a customer smile. Recently I visited a customer along with my team. Suddenly, customer suggested to get our and competition’s product tested in their laboratory. The smile I saw on the face of customer, when they found our quality far superior then that of the competition, is the main asset for me and is the greatest driving force.

How do you maintain the perfect balance between your personal and professional life?
In the very beginning, I confess that there is intermingling of professional and personal life too many times. As I am very ambitious on professional front, it’s very difficult for me to maintain perfect balance between personal and professional life. In my pursuit to maintain a balance between the two, I follow some basic rules like preparing and adhering to the schedule of tasks to be completed. I find delegating the work to my team(of course keeping in view their work life balance too) to be a very helpful tool for getting the tasks accomplished I believe the quality of time put in the both spheres of life is more important than just the number of hours spent.

Rahul has completed his bachelor’s in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and master’s in Business Management from the University of Leeds, UK.
