Cardiologist

In India, cardiovascular diseases are becoming more prevalent, contributing to almost 28 percent of all fatalities each year. Even though India has made great strides in the field of cardiac care, it is still difficult to find high-quality, affordable care, especially in tier II and tier III cities. A vision for long-term, patient-centered care is just as important as medical knowledge in addressing this healthcare disparity.

Dr Amit Kumar, Inter- ventional Cardiologist at K Care Hospital exemplifies this goal by fusing outstanding clinical knowledge with a desire to make cutting-edge cardiovascular care accessible and affordable. He has been working to improve cardiac care in under served areas for more than 8 years, with a focus on risk factor management, early prevention, and innovative interventions.

Engaging in an immersive interaction with CEO Insights magazine, Dr Amit shares his strategies, leadership guidelines, future roadmap, and much more. Let's delve into it.

What is your take on dynamic technology trends in the healthcare industry, and what are the latest tools your hospital has imple- mented for diagnostics and treatment?
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, electronic medical records (EMRs), digital prescrip- tions, and online consultations have improved accessibility and efficiency while also streamlining patient care. Mobile health apps are essential for patient education and monitoring because they enable people to effectively manage long-term health conditions.

We have incorporated cutting-edge technologies at our hospital, including tele- consultation services for smooth second opinions, sophisticated monitoring devices for real-time health data, and point-of-care testing for quick diagnostics. Cardiologists are using state-of-the-art techno- logies, such as next-generation CT scans, to provide detailed coronary imaging without the need for
invasive procedures. Innovative imaging tools such as IVUS and OCT are used in our cath lab, and they have greatly increased the accuracy of procedures like angio -plasty, improving patient outcomes over the long run.

What are the key challenges preventing people from making healthy lifestyle choices, and how can these be addressed effectively?
The younger generation's growing dependence on technology, which results in a sedentary lifestyle with little physical activity, is one of the main issues of our day. This lifestyle greatly increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases when combined with bad eating habits like eating fast food and addictions such as smoking and drinking. These issues are further made worse by stress from a competitive setting, which has an adverse effect on one's physical and mental well-being.

Many cases of cardio -vascular disease can be avoided by promoting healthy lifestyles, appropriate diet, & prompt medical consul -tations

It is important to lead a balanced life to address these issues. 45 minutes a day of moderate-intensity exercise can have a profound impact. I tell my patients to avoid junk food and sugary drinks and to eat a diet high in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and salads. It is also important to get six to seven hours of sleep and cut back on screen time. Above all, spend quality time with your loved ones for a healthier and more fulfilling life.

What is your leadership approach, and what methodologies guide you as a leader?
I adhere to established procedures and guidelines while advancing my clinical knowledge to enable me to make decisions in critical situations. I keep up with developments by routinely attending conferences and continuing medical education, which guarantees high standards of medical practice. I also stress professional conduct and ethical standards, which are essential to healthcare leadership.

What advice would you give to the upcoming healthcare industry leaders in this field?
I would advise aspiring healthcare executives to be mentally prepared to face challenges because they are an inevitable part of both professional and life growth. See challenges as chances for innovation and advancement rather than something to be
afraid of. Collaborate with your group, have candid conversations about obstacles, and determine the best course of action together. Stay focused on your mission and keep moving forward, no matter how tough the journey. Your resilience and self-belief will lead you to success.

What is the future goal you are striving to achieve?
Our long-term objective is to create a healthcare system that is affordable and accessible for the general public while meeting international standards for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. We want to establish cutting-edge treatment facilities in tier II and tier III cities to broaden our reach beyond tier I cities.

We also aim to raise awareness of cardio-vascular risk factors at the grassroots level. We can drastically lower the disease burden by teaching people how to manage diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol at an early age.

Our center is actively engaged in cutting-edge research. We hope to address important issues in cardiometabolic health and find innovative ways to enhance patient outcomes through ongoing randomized control trials and medication studies.
