Dr Mayur Jain

Director & Sr. Interventional Cardiologist

Despite being one of the largest healthcare markets globally, India has been witnessing a steep increase in the number of cardiology cases in recent times. Due to unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, stressful daily lives and excessive tobacco & alcohol consumption, people are now becoming more prone to lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity which are known to be root causes of cardio -vascular ailments in most cases.

Although over 300,000 surgeries are being performed in India annually, there’s still a deficit of skilled cardiologists especially in rural areas. Emerging as the true life savers in this regard are eminent cardiologists such as Dr Mayur Jain, Director & Sr. Interventional Cardiologist, Jinkushal Cardiac Care, who are helping the country to successfully combat the alarming rise of heart diseases through their vast industry expertise and patient-centric care.

Having completed his MBBS and MD Medicine from Grant Government Medical College & JJ Hospital, Mumbai, Dr Mayur went on to pursue DM Cardiology from the same institution where he achieved the 1st Rank and was awarded Gold Medal from Maharashtra Government. To further hone his skills and satiate his hunger for knowledge, he then took-up training for complex angioplasty & structural heart diseases at the Cleveland Clinic hospital, Ohio, U.S. Leveraging the vast knowledge and expertise acquired over the years, he setup his own hospital named Jinkushal Cardiac Care in 2023.

Till date, he has successfully performed over 3,000 angioplasties, more than 8,000 angiographies, 100+ cases of chronic total occlusion(CTO) and 200+ bifurcation cases. Owing to such fine track record, Dr Mayur also holds Fellowships from globally reputed professional bodies such as American College of Cardiology, Society of Cardiovascular Angiography& Interventions, and European Society of Cardiology.

CEO Insights recently got the opportunity to interact with this renowned medical professional, wherein he shared more insightful information on his career journey so far, his hospital Jinkushal Cardiac Care, and many other interesting aspects.
Below are a few key extracts from the exclusive interaction.

What inspired you take-up specialization in the field of cardiology?
I have always idolized my father, who is a practicing MD Physician and received a lot of respect from the patients, due to the kind of social service that he did. Also, interventional cardiology is one branch of medicine where we can actually save lives by performing emergency angioplasty, especially in acute heart patients. This was my major source of inspiration, and I was determined to take-up cardiology as my specialization right from the beginning of my MBBS itself.

Always at the forefront of technology adoption, I’m one of the few cardiologists in Mumbai to perform angioplasty without stents by using a new technique called Drug-Coated Balloon Angioplasty

Enlighten us about Jinkushal Cardiac Care and the various treatments that it provides.
Jinkushal Cardiac Care is a 30-bed cardiac care and multispecialty hospital in Thane comprising of a 7-bed ICU, state-of-the-art cath lab, and two fully equipped OTs of which one is dedicated for complex cardiac procedures such as bypass surgeries and valve replacements. Some of the primary areas where we offer treatment here include Cardiology, General Medicine, Neurology, Orthopedics, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, Interventional Radiology, and Plastic & Cosmetic Surgeries.

The standout feature of Jinkushal Cardiac Care has been our cath lab which is the only one in Maharashtra to have in-built CT Scan that’s AI operated. This enables us to treat acute paralysis patients with ease by doing a DSA on the patient, thrombolyze them and even do a CT scan without having to move them around riskily along with their ventilators. Thus, we’ve cemented our position as the immediate choice for complex cardiac surgeries in the region and have successfully conducted over 100 bypass procedures & 50+ stent-less angioplasty so far.

What makes your approach to patient care unique and stand-out in the market?
My treatment protocol focuses on long-term therapy and not just till the patient’s discharge. Thus, genuineness in patient care is one key principle that I strictly practice, wherein I don’t force my patients to undergo any procedures unless it is necessary from their health’s perspective. I’m among the very few cardiologists that let the families capture videos while performing angiography so that they can take second opinion. Also, I keep the
pill burden to the lowest by prescribing combination pills to avoid gastritis among patients.

Additionally, I’m always at the forefront of technology adoption and am one of the few cardiologists in Mumbai to perform angioplasty without stents by using a new technique called Drug-Coated Balloon Angioplasty, where we deliver the drug on the vessel wall without using an implant into the patient’s body. As a result, patients get discharged within just two days of undergoing angioplasty, and this has been the primary factor that helps me maintain a competitive edge over other cardiologists.

How are you trying to make your treatments affordable to all masses?
Despite having my own hospital, I still allot one day every week to visit a few hospitals where government healthcare policies are available and treat the patients there. I also provide my latest treatment techniques to those patients at nominal rates, and in cases where patients can’t afford paying for their treatment, I waive off my operative charges. Additionally, I also run a program called ‘CPR Sikhao Jaan Bachao’, through which I’ve also trained 3,000+ individuals with CPR by conducting training programs in schools, colleges and other social gatherings.

Throw some light of the future roadmap that you’ve envisioned for yourself and your hospital.
Going forward, my primary focus will be on creating awareness among general public about cardiac therapies and the ill effects of tobacco consumption. While I aspire becoming the one person to have taught CPR to everyone in Thane, I also want to develop a new therapy that’ll prevent blockages and significantly reduces the chances of heart attacks. Additionally, I want to continue providing ethical healthcare services to my patients and ensure their complete satisfaction. Most importantly, I look forward to growing Jinkushal Cardiac Care into a 100-bed hospital and open small branches in remote regions that lack the necessary cardiac facilities so that I can save maximum lives possible.
