In a personal interview with us, Dr. Neel shared with us his professional journey and his plans.
Can you provide a summary of your professional background and experience? What drives and inspires you in your daily routines?
I began my career as a consultant head and a surgeon, later transitioning into freelancing as a surgeon in Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Nadiad, and surrounding areas. Additionally, I served as an assistant professor at Pacific Dental College for two years. In July 2023, I relocated to the UAE and worked in Al Ain, part of the Abu Dhabi Emirate, for about 14 months. For the past four months, I have been affiliated with Dr. Joy Dental Clinic, where I currently practice as a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Can you share your leadership approach? What principles or strategies do you adhere to in your leadership role?
I oversee operations at four of Dr. Joy clinics in Dubai. I adhere to a structured routine and specific protocols to ensure efficiency and high standards in our practices. I coordinate and assign tasks to guarantee that every procedure or surgery meets the highest standards of excellence. This approach has been a consistent part of my practice, both in India and now in the UAE, where I continue to follow and maintain the same guide lines.
How do you stay informed about current industry trends to guide your organization toward future success?
As a medical professional, staying updated is essential due to the constant emergence of new technologies, materials, and advancements. I dedicate at least an hour daily to reading articles and learning about the latest developments in technology and surgical techniques that could benefit both my practice and my patients. Additionally, I regularly participate in continuing medical education (CME) programs, typically every two to three months, to stay informed about the latest trends, technologies, and advancements in the field of maxillofacial surgery.
What are the biggest challenges you've faced, and how did you overcome them? What lessons did you learn?
One of the toughest challenges I’ve faced was during my fellowship, where I had the opportunity to work extensively with cancer patients. This experience was incredibly emotionally and mentally draining, as I witnessed the pain, fear, and struggles of patients every day. It was difficult to see them go through such tough times, often feeling helpless in the face of their suffering. However, what kept me motivated and going through these challenges was the profound impact we were able to have on their lives.
The positive outcomes we achieved - whether it was through a successful surgery or seeing a patient discharge with a smile - were a constant reminder of why I do what I do. The gratitude and relief from the patients and their families provided me with an immense sense of fulfilment and purpose. These moments of success helped me push through

The clinic’s reputation for excellence and its commitment to providing top-tier care drives me to continuously strive for improvement in my practice. This experience fuels my ambition to not only maintain high standards of patient care but also to envision and work towards establishing a similarly impactful and expansive practice. My advice would be to stay motivated and focused, no matter the circumstances. Challenges are inevitable, but they are an integral part of life and provide valuable lessons for personal and professional growth. Rather than being discouraged by obstacles, view them as opportunities to learn, improve, and strengthen your resilience. Always remain determined, trust in your abilities, and keep pushing forward.
