Jayanth Reddy Mogili
CEO
In this interview, we bring you an insightful conversation with Jayanth Reddy Mogili, an experienced leader in the construction industry. Join us as we explore his remarkable career journey, from humble beginnings to becoming the CEO of MSR Construction.
Can you please walk us through your career journey?
My career journey was pretty straight forward considering my family is in the construction business. I have been passionate about construction and infra- structure since childhood. The desire to build great infrastructure pushed me to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering and later a master’s in construction management focusing on Project Management and Project Controls. Tapping on my skills and experience in the industry, I began a journey to transform visionary ideas into tangible structures that shape the nation's landscape. Over the years, we have grown from a small business to one of the major players in the construction industry. My main goal is to apply everything I’ve learned in construction mana- gement and civil engineering to our daily operations and projects.
What's Your Opinion On Emerging New Technologies?
I believe construction and technology must go hand in hand in the current environment. My primary goal is to implement all relevant technological aspects that can benefit our construction processes. Recently, we partnered with a software development company in Hyderabad to create a custom application for construction companies. When I was searching for such an application, I couldn't find one readily available in the market, so we decided to develop it ourselves. This partnership has enabled us to create a tailored solution for our needs. I think the integration of AI, IoT, and other advanced technologies should be readily adopted in the construction industry, just as we see in other sectors. The change is happening and we are embracing it to stay ahead.
How are you finding ways to utilize your previous professional experiences and knowledge to drive MSR Constructions in a strategic direction?
Digital technologies is sweeping across all the industries. We are
planning to go completely digital. The importance of digital transformation in the construction industry cannot be overstated. As the industry faces increasing pressure to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance productivity, digital tools and technologies offer significant advantages. By transitioning from manual processes to digital solutions, construction companies can streamline operations, improve data accuracy, and enable real-time monitoring of project progress. Digital transformation facilitates better resource management, reduces the risk of errors, and allows for more effective collaboration among stakeholders. It also enhances decision-making through data analytics and predictive insights, leading to better project outcomes.
For example, we monitored day-to-day fuel consumption manually, which is critical for our construction company since our major raw materials are steel, cement, and fuel (petrol or diesel) used by our construction equipment. Now, we've developed our own software to monitor site fuel consumption and track daily needs, allowing us to identify any backlogs or issues more efficiently and stay ahead in our operations.

How do you attract the right market leaders for collaboration or partnership purposes, and what principles do you ensure the team follows for each project?
Previously, we recruited people through LinkedIn and other recruitment platforms. Recently, however, we have partnered with several recruitment companies to help us find the right team to achieve our goals for the current financial year and beyond. Attracting the right talent is challenging, especially as the construction industry is in a rapid growth phase, making it tough for emerging companies like ours. None the less,

by using effective recruitment strategies and offering employees proper benefits, such as health perks and opportunities for personal growth within the company, we are building a strong team. Our commitment to employee development is evident, as many of our employees have been with us for 10 to 15 years. I have known some of them since my school days, and now, working alongside them, I see the value of their long-term dedication and experience every day.
Could you tell me about your leadership approach? What guidelines or methodologies do you follow to lead your team?
As a leader, I believe it's crucial to be empathetic, especially in our industry, which is heavily reliant on human relationships. We work with people from diverse educational backgrounds, from highly educated individuals to those with very little formal education. It's important to understand that my way of understanding might not be the same as someone with minimal education. I strive to put myself in their shoes to understand their needs and perspectives. By doing this, I can build strong relationships with everyone in our company, which helps in achieving our goals more effectively.
I believe in transparent communication and actively seek feedback to understand the needs and concerns of my team. By promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional development, I encourage my employees to pursue their career goals while aligning their growth with the company's objectives. I also prioritize work-life balance, recognizing that a happy and well-rounded team is more productive and innovative.
Currently, we handle major projects in the board based sector and are looking to expand into the nationwide rail sector. To support this expansion, we are recruiting a new set of engineers. With their addition, I believe we are well-positioned for future success.
What is the future roadmap you envision for the company and what advice would you give to upcoming leaders?
My advice is to gain a solid understanding of practical work methodologies, not just theoretical knowledge. The approaches we learn in college often differ from real-world practices. To be an effective leader in the construction industry, start from the ground up, working as a site engineer, supervisor, or project engineer. Growth should be systematic rather than sudden, ensuring you gain exposure to all aspects of the project. This comprehensive experience is essential for effective leadership.
