Under the aegis of Mayank Rohilla and Nishant Goyal, REnergo is a one stop boutique firm with regulatory, technical, commercial, and execution expertise for the development and operation of solar power projects of different sizes. In an exclusive conversation, Mayank & Nishant share their journey, business vision, and more with CEO Insights.
What different roles have you been undertaking at REnergo Developers?
Mayank:We both handle the entire operations, along with our other partner Abhijeet Ghosh. Since we all work together, we haven’t made very delineated responsibility structures. However, I mostly take care of the technical aspects right from conceptualization to procurement, to construction and operation.
Nishant:My focus is more on the Business Development side. Additionally, all three of us share responsibilities of acquisition, business expansion, and strategy formation not only for this business but also for the other businesses that we are invested in.
How does your combined experience help to chalk-out business operations for the company?
Working in the field related to sustainability for almost 14 years has helped us have a better grip on
the market. Both of us have Clean Tech and Sustainability Consulting background and hence have a solution based approach. This allows us to reach-out to the right decision makers, understand their requirements better and help present compelling propositions. This makes us a better player in the market compared to our contemporaries.
Having a problem solving mindset and experience of having worked with CXOs across different domains helped us gather varied domain experience.This is enabling us to have a broad approach to come-up with custom-made solutions that fit an individual client or sector specific requirements.
We have also advised policy makers in India including the Planning Commission and State regulators, hence we have a strong hold on policy and regulatory aspects, allowing us to help our clients better. This helped us a lot in Nepal, where we entered as early movers when policies were not put together our experience helped us assist policy makers to a large extent.
Highlight the mantra you follow at REnergo that helps you stay abreast with the market needs.
The culture we have built is to understand the client’s requirements better and to offer them sustainable solutions which can give better-than-market returns. Hence, we only advise such projects to our clients which we would ourselves like to invest in. This holistic approach is further strengthened by having the right team with the right attitude that aligns with our vision of delivering sustainable quality. We aim towards sustainable development and help our clients achieve the same by redefining energy consumption, costs, and environmental footprint.
We have consciously kept ourselves lean, but only have quality people, which allows us to navigate and adapt to the dynamic market realities. In this fragmented and uncertain domain, our ‘Never Say Never’ attitude and problem-solving mindset have brought us far even amidst the competition and other ups & downs. But above all, we are entrepreneurs at heart with a burning desire to grow as much as we can and go as far as we can, and be known for quality delivery

Some companies do project development, some do liaison work, while others do EPC. But none of the brands do it all under one roof. This is the gap we fill as a one-stop-shop to cater to all needs for setting-up a renewable energy project. We are an integrated solution provider for end-to-end EPC with a wide spectrum understanding of the project’s financial and technical feasibility. As we said earlier, we understand the investors’ perspective and not just that of a developer or contractor and hence are able to deliver projects in which we ourselves would like to invest.
We ensure to keep ahead of the curve in terms of implementing newer technologies. To give an example, we used Mono PERC modules in Nepal even before it was introduced in India. In short, we ensure to be at par and advance in offering the best to the clients.
Another key factor is that the company has a clear-cut geography-specific offering. For project development, we are working closely with some of the largest IPPs in the Indian sub-continent and the APAC region under both government sale and C&I space. For turnkey EPC, we have a pipeline of turnkey EPC projects for more than 200 MW projects, with around 80 MW underway in the Indian sub-continent. Our portfolio in Nepal is flourishing as well.
