Rajeev Ranjan
Chief Administrative Officer
How does your vast experience help you to chalk out the administrative operations for CIMP?
What I feel, administrative operations are more or less of the same nature everywhere, particularly when it comes to interventions. Apart from other things, one essentially has to be a tough task master to get things done with military precision. My exposure and experience with the country's largest employer have given me a macro view of different facets, systems, and processes across a wide geographical area and demographic. It significantly helped to infuse administrative interventions in a then burgeoning organization, like CIMP, after having such a broad exposure. Besides, I've also been fortunate enough to have the continued leadership and guidance of CIMP's founder Director, Dr. V. Mukunda Das.
What are the methods that you put forward as a CAO to adhere to the organizational values with your
vision and what is your mantra to cons tantly add value to your organization?
Our vision is ‘To become a nationally and internationally relevant management education and research institution emphasizing excellence'.To keep CIMP aligned with its vision and add significant value to the organisation,we strive for 'excellence' in whatever we do, whether it is systems and procedures, infrastructure or inputs of any sort.
What different roles have you been undertaking at CIMP?
Apart from my usual administrative inter ventional tasks as the institute's CAO, I have also been doing academic, research, and consultancy works. I'm also the Executive Education Coordinator at CIMP and I've conducted Management Development Programme (MDPs)for about 6K plus senior executives/ officers drawn from various organizations and services such as Indian Oil, LIC, India Post, Bihar Police Service, Bihar Administrative Service, and the like.
As a researcher, I have several research papers to my credit that have been published in international journals and accepted for presentation at prestigious international conferences such as Cambridge and INFORMS. Last year, I had the honour of presenting my paper an international conference at Cambridge University(UK). Besides, I have also reviewed research articles for a number of reputed journals as well as for some of the world's most prestigious conferences.
As a consultant, I have consulted for several government agencies and departments wherein many of my recommendations have prima facie been implemented.
Tell us about the journey so far at CIMP. What are the major challenges faced by you in your professional journey so far and how did you overcome those to evolve as a CAO?
Any kind of journey per se is always `fantastic' it's we who either make it mesmerizing or mess it up with. The experience totally depends upon how we navigate through the

Any kind of journey per se is always `fantastic' it's we who either make it mesmerizing or mess it up with. The experience totally depends upon how we navigate through the
situations and the circumstances along the journey. Frankly speaking, except for some of the teething problems, which are inevitable in any budding setup, I had a smooth gliding journey. For this, I owe a profound gratitude to my parents for their upbringing, intellectual cultivation and always making me see an opportunity in every adversity, which helped me bounce back after every potential crisis in my life.
What is your success mantra?
If I make a revelation here, It may appear ‘shocking’ to a vast majority of people, but it is a fact... We are beset with the wrong notion from our very childhood that you need to work hard to be successful. I believe in the philosophy what Confucius had once said, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life!”If you take my words, there is only one mantra of success: Never run for success rather always strive for ‘excellence’ in whatever you do, pursue your goal ‘religiously’, success will ultimately follow as a ‘by-product’. There may be times when success is delayed and we often get disheartened. We should try to understand the basic phenomenon of the cosmos ice does not immediately melt or water does not immediately vaporize after applying heat, there is a concept called ‘latent’ heat of fusion and vaporization. Similarly, some goals need a 'latent' effort for fructi fication and therefore, we also need to have perseverance while doing our work religiously.
In your journey so far, which are the milestones that bestowed you with utmost satisfaction both as an individual and as a CAO?
Let me make a candid confession... I'm always a dissatisfied entity both as an individual and as a professional. I always find fault in my own work and accomplishments, finetune the parameters, rework upon it and usually this vicious cycle goes on. So, I don't find any of the milestones in the journey of my professional or personal life that have given me 'utmost' satisfaction.
What is the future road map of CIMP?
Our future roadmap is to have global foot prints to reckon with andevolve as a landmark on the landscape of management education on this planet.
