Exceptional leaders possess a unique blend of vision, determination, and the ability to inspire and motivate others. They are individuals who consistently strive for excellence, innovate in their respective fields, and foster a positive work environment. One such remarkable leader is Sanjay Agarwal, the Managing Director of Globe Capacitors. With his strong passion for innovation, Sanjay has transformed his family business into a prominent player in the capacitor manufacturing industry.

Sanjay Agarwal, a dynamic and accomplished leader, joined his family business after completing his engineering degree from Manipal University. He quickly developed a fascination for innovative technologies and a desire to enhance capacitor production. Through strategic partnerships with multinational corporations and a relentless pursuit of quality and cost-effectiveness, Sanjay has propelled Globe Capacitors to greater heights.

In an exclusive interaction with CEO Insights, Sanjay Agarwal elucidates his professional traits and Globe Capacitors.

Could you give a brief account of your professional background and experiences? What is the motivation that fuels your daily routines?
I joined my family business after completing my engineering degree from Manipal University in1988, which had around 100 employees and a turnover of 5crore. Upon joining, I developed a strong fascination for companies in Korea, Europe, and Japan, and I aimed to explore innovative technologies and discover new approaches to enhance capacitor production and cost effectiveness. Gradually, we expanded our exports to the Middle East, followed by expansion into the US, Europe, and South America.

Every day, my mindset revolves around doing something different
and better. As I approach my 57th birthday, I am motivated to continue working tirelessly until the end. This drive pushes me to be present at the company every morning, spend maximum hours working, and lead from the front. I do not believe in simply sitting back and relaxing as the CEO or MD. Instead, I am a workaholic who enjoys working alongside my team, whether it's on the shop floor or in the boardrooms.

Tell us about the unique experiences Manipal Institute of Technology offers and what did you learn from the campus beyond academics?
Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) offered unique experiences that went beyond academics. It taught us the value of cultivating strong bonds, fostering loyalty, and nurturing leadership skills. Personally, MIT transformed me from an introverted individual to a confident person with global friendships. MIT alumni are prominent leaders worldwide, and this global presence fascinated me. It empowered us to become resilient leaders, fostering a strong team spirit. It also created a deep connection with our alma mater. Being an MITan carries weight and prompts people to go out of their way to help one another. This was evident when I secured an appointment with Minister of State Mr. Rajiv Chandrasekhar by mentioning my MIT affiliation.

As a leader, I believe in setting a positive example and practicing what I preach. I maintain a supportive approach towards all members of the organization, regardless of their level.I guide and motivate individuals, ensuring that
every one takes pride in their work. I prioritize being a human before being a successful businessman because building relationships is crucial for success. Being a good leader also requires you to be healthy and fit. I follow my fitness regime regularly and it helps me to cope up with crazy travel schedules.

Going forward, what are the changes in market behavior that you anticipate and what are the opportunities that you foresee?
Our commitment to quality, fast delivery, and competitive pricing has been the key to our success. Currently, the group turnover is around 360-370 crore, and our goal is to become a 500 crore company within three years. We see tremendous opportunities in emerging sectors like electric vehicles, wind mills, and locomotives, and we are eager to explore these areas on a global scale. We aim to become a global leader in the electrical electronics and capacitor field, expanding both in terms of turnover and reputation. In light of your strong experience within the industry.

what advice would you give to budding industry leaders?
My advice to aspiring industry leaders is to embrace the role of a team leader and focus on delivering exceptional quality.
