companies providing different services. Udipta Energy & Equipment (Udipta Energy) is one such business entity established and successfully spearheaded by Sanjib. In an exclusive interview with CEO Insight, Sanjib walks us through his professional journey as well as the distinctive characteristics of Udipta Energy & Equipment

Take us through your educational and professional background? What inspired you to establish Udipta Energy & Equipment?
I pursued my Post Graduation in Applied Geology from Dibrugarh University and have undergone a few professional trainings meant for prospective entrepreneur. I was a pioneer of the cooperative movement in Sivasagar, Assam, wherein the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC) started an attempt in the late 1980s to engage local youths in miscellaneous supplies and services to ONGC. When dealing with ONGC's eastern asset in Sivasagar, I discovered a gap in demand and supply for a few affordable services. The co-operatives did not survive for long due to various reasons, and separate business entities arose in the same region. I utilized my experience and knowledge for some misc.job initially with O&M jobs and subsequently to charter hire business since 2007. I initiated the charter hire business in the form of a private limited company and that is how Udipta Energy & Equipment came into the picture.
Define Udipta Energy & Equipment as a company and its present industrial position.
Udipta Energy & Equipment is an MSME with diverse experience and interests ranging from upstream oil and gas services to solar power generation, placing emphasis on the conventional and renewable energy sectors in India. Being a service provider, we have been operating with the mottos of 'Service before Self'and 'Commitment to Excellence'. Though we are recognized for operating in a confined territory, we are also involved in national and international business. Our service lines in the upstream oil and gas service sectors has been very strategically chosen and is at par with many international and multinational companies. Our strength is'all services under one roof'and 'ready to go service'. We deliver results, not reasons.

Could you tell us about the unique services provided by Udipta Energy & Equipment that set it apart from the competition?
Selflessness in service inputs, as well as comprehending clients' requirements and challenges, have distinguished our service. We have served a modest number of clients, but once there, we have made rooms for ourselves in their hearts.

The industry expects highly competitive service. Along with providing dedicated services, we are also required to maintain a competitive price. For our associated industry, Service and Prices are mutually exclusive. We have been successful in maintaining an appropriate balance in our service and price, as well as ensuring very good control over the delivery of our performance, this unique equilibrium has kept us going in a rapidly changing, dynamic, and highly competitive market.

In your professional journey thus far, which are the milestones that bestowed you with utmost satisfaction?
Assam is not industrially developed state like Gujarat or Maharashtra, unemployment is one of the significant social concerns. We have been able to engage around 500 locals in our company and we are delighted to generate employment while also enhancing their skills. Further, we are a prominent GST payer in Assam, and serving our state, contributing to the state economy gives us immense pleasure. Our company does not operate as a family-managed corporation, instead, the employees run the company with ownership involvement, which brings me enormous satisfaction as an
individual. Last but not least, we could pave the way for the state's industrial development and encourage many new generation entrepreneurs to establish their businesses while also supporting a few start ups.

Based on your strong professional experience, what advice would you provide to aspiring entrepreneurs in the same industry?
I strongly believe that experience is a never ending phenomenon, and that transforming experience into knowledge is critical for advising others. Whatever professional experiences I have gathered up to this point, I would like to consolidate them to state that Knowledge is at the core of every business and eagerness to learn more can make a person dynamic to survive in a fast changing business world. Commercial knowledge, particularly fund management and knowledge of govt. provided schemes and incentives are vital for the success of all businesses.

Knowledge sharing and positive attitudes are must for successful business. New technology and technology up-gradation should be well applied in business operations. While the scale of operation must be optimized to maximize profit, quality service is not a cost, but an investment. Developing a common platform to showcase common issues and resolutions through discussion and representation is essential for survival. More particularly, finding solutions for unhealthy competition and eliminating poor service quality by creating a sustainable and synergic ecosystem among the industry fraternity is a need of the business.
