Tell us about the inception story of EMF Innovations.
Our original motivation for launching EMF Innovations in 2016 was to develop magnet-free motors in Switched Reluctance Motor technology(SRM) but, at the time, the market in India was not ready to support such technology. Then we settled on the idea of making motors using magnets. We offer a range of DC motors and controllers including Brushless DC (BLDC) hub and inner rotor motors as well as Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs). To meet the growing demands of India’s EV industry, we established one of India’s first BLDC hub motor manufacturing plants in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, which has been operational since January 2020. The state-of-the-art semi automated
plant is supported by an extensive network of local suppliers that have been nurtured to meet its price and quality standards, resulting in the production of motors that can truly be considered Made in India.
Despite having no business experience in this field, I was ready to learn and take on new challenges. Regardless of my job, I've always focused on helping consumers with prevalent concerns. All I wanted to do was create a product that would make people's lives simpler, meet market demand, and advance my career.
How would you define EMF Innovations as an organization and its current position in the market?
EMF Innovations (EMFi) is a specialist in electric motor design and manufacturing. We have created a wide range of motors both in Hub type and Mid drive models using Brushless DC Motors (BLDC),Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) and SRM technology. EMFi doesn’t have any collaboration with any foreign companies. We had invested in local talents, having a policy of Hiring the talents for their attitude and training them to be skilled. Strengthened our supply chain network by investing in casting molds, Jigs, and fixtures essential for the manufacturing process. Created the local ecosystem for electric motor manufacturing. Out of 45 Bill of Material components, 43 are localized which is truly supported towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Describe the company's technological framework and the newest tech developments it plans to incorporate.
Even though the world is advancing steadily toward the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs), EVs are just one aspect of the green energy narrative. In terms of pricing and performance, there is a great deal of space for advancement in today's technology. Beyond the manufacture of motors, EMFi aspires to continuously push the limits of current electric motor technology toward a more sustainable future. Its inhouse R&D team develops and refines cutting edge electric motor technologies, such as Axial Flux motor designs

EMFi is a firm believer in not just technological but also business model innovation. Going electric is not a simple task, and concerns such as the expense for people and organizations to move from gasoline to electric cars and the possibility of wasting perfectly functional gasoline vehicles must be addressed.
Going forward, what are the changes in market behavior that you anticipate, and what are the opportunities that you foresee?
Thanks to the Indian government for supporting local industry and localization via Aatmanirbhar Bharat, enforcing FAME 2 firmly, and enhancing production conformance (COP). Enabling many startups to join this area would strengthen our company, we believe. It will also alter the Indian industry, allowing new companies that perform local design and manufacture to thrive.
Furthermore the EV ecosystem is increasing and EV adoption is rising. With the Ecosystem, most components will be created in India. This will make India a prominent producer of components and automobiles in the years to come. Though this may take a decade or so.
In light of your strong experience within the industry, what advice would you give to budding industry leaders?
Hire the talent not for the degree but for their attitude and train them to be skilled. Also, retain the team which aligns with the vision of the company. Continuous focus on the improvement of the product by under standing your customer's growing needs.
Furthermore, persistent R&D will keep you ahead of the market. Above all Discipline, sincere commitment, and perseverance is most important to success.
