In an exclusive interview with CEO INSIGHTS, Sudheer talks more about his professional journey and the unique business operations of SkillRecruit.
Can you talk more about the inception story behind SkillRecruit?
I am an Electronics Engineer turned software professional turned businessman. I started my career with NTPC. Then worked with LTI and Wipro. My wife Swapna and I established Skilliantech in the UK in 2005 as a technology company. We executed projects with local Councils and Universities, in SAP. At that time, we comprehended the immense potential of the recruitment business and over time, that has become our passion.
After a while, we have realized it's high time for us to return to India to be with and take care of our parents. We returned to India in 2011 and we started Skillian tech India Pvt Ltd in 2012. We are fortunate to have my parents, my wife's parents and our sons (Sahaj & Srujan) staying together in Hyderabad since then. The same family oriented culture was instilled into our companies too. And, owing to that, we treat all our team members as family, and that has resulted in our employees staying with us for a long time. This is some thing unique in the recruitment industry where most employees change companies usually in a couple of years.
When we were returning to India, we needed someone to take care of the company in the UK and we realized that person is none other than our good friend Dr. Raja Phani Pappu.Since then, he has been instru mental in growing both the UK
and Indian companies multifold. With his initiative, we have established Skill Recruit as our recruitment brand under the umbrella of Skilliantech.
While running our IT Recruitment busines ses, the other businesses we ventured into (Restaurants, Hardware, Stone, Healthcare, Insurance) have been failures, and that taught us valuable lessons on how best (and more importantly, how not) to run a business.It took a while for us to recover from those losses, to recuperate our primary business (SkillRecruit) and grow it.
What are the new opportunities that you are seeing in this field?
Our target customer is any company across the world who needs reliable IT resources. We can supply manpower across all the technologies and industries.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, most of the businesses across the world have allowed their employees and associates to work from home. With that flexibility, a lot of companies are looking at India to supply technically qualified professionals to support from home.
That will save a lot of hassle with regards to visa processing, travel, cultural differences, etc. Even for those companies who don't have an office or entity in India,we can source, employ and takecare of all the statutory requirements for the resources to work on their projects, with a fraction of the cost compared to employing local resources.
According to various reports, the size of the global recruitment market is around USD 500 Billion currently. Most of our clients are getting more work and they are asking for more resources from us. Even during the pandemic, we have grown rapidly, and we are taking on more employees as we speak.
Can you talk more about the uniqueness of the company and the services that you offer?
The main core value I have introduced in our company is "Associate is God". That has changed the way our employees have been dealing with our clients and associates. There is a lot of under standing and compassion now in the company compared to earlier. That has also resulted in

Our corporate headquarters is in London, and our teams and clients are spread across the world. We specialize in IT & Engineering recruitment, serving many prestigious IT and ITES companies on various models of recruitment in a multitude of technologies, domains and industries. Both our UK and India entities are CMMI Level 3 accredited which is a rare certification for a pure play recruitment company. And we are a proud member of NASSCOM in India.
Our policies of treating not only our clients but our employees and associates also as Gods, giving them equal respect, and sharing profits with them in a direct proportion to the company's profits have helped us grow and keep our customers happy.
Can you talk more about the future plans of the company?
We want to make the people happy to grow our business. So, we want to keep our employees happy who in turn can make our candidates happy. When our candidates are happy, they will work well and make our clients happy. We want to continue doing this and to ensure everyone is happy we have implemented some core values in our company that includes treat our clients and associates well and understand and address their grievances in the best possible manner. Before covid, we were also visiting all our candidates directly to build a good relationship with them. This also helps us to improve our conversion ratio which is crucial to succeed in the recruitment industry.
In the next three years, our strategy is to grow at a far higher rate than we did earlier. Though COVID-19 pandemic is a very sad one with respect to the number of lives lost across the world, it has helped the recruitment industry in India. A lot of companies across the world are now out sourcing their IT projects more than ever to India and we are inundated with requests from the current and new companies alike to supply them with qualified manpower.
