Ulysses Wang: Helping Organizations Redefine Corporate Performance By Reverse-Engineering Human Behaviors
Ulysses Wang
International NLP Master Coach & Trainer
Before stepping into the shoes as an entrepreneur, he has achieved success in the corporate training industry, where he helmed the top post for the largest training provider in Southeast Asia, overseeing sales territories across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. In a heart-to-heart conversation with CEO Insights, Ulysses narrates to us his journey from discovering the potential of NLP to personally training some of the largest Fortune 500 companies across the globe.
Your professional career began from a job in telesales selling corporate sports hospitality packages. What led you to the world of NLP training?
My first brush with NLP occurred by chance. In 2014, a majority of my business dealt with major oil and gas companies around Southeast Asia and the Middle East, and the industry was undergoing tough times, which adversely impacted my business. Obviously, my personal life took a hit too. I remember walking into a supermarket and carefully choosing only the cheapest bread, milk and eggs that are just enough for a week.
I knew I had to go back to the fundamentals. I had to start all over again. I became obsessed with only one thing till today. It is this very same thing that turned my career and life around. That is Human Behaviors. I was thinking to myself that if I can master this, I will be able to reverse engineer and influence all the important stakeholders in my
business and life.
It’s kind of funny. I remember sitting at cafes for hours observing people’s body posture, facial expressions and all those stuffs and try to see if it’s congruent. I study emails and text messages in a way that reveals meaning beyond the written words. And over time, I noticed a pattern that repeatedly shows up.
Fast forward till today, the very skills I learnt have allowed me to bring my business to a whole new level and expanded internationally.
Tell us about the various NLP courses that you render, and also what were the pointers that you kept in mind while designing them?
We primarily conduct NLP Practitioner and NLP Master Practitioner Certification programs that run 10-15 times a year in Southeast Asia and also the Middle East. Additionally, we conduct inhouse training and consultations for organizations that need to increase corporate performance. Our primary objective with these programs is to make it as tactical as possible, so our participants and clients are able to implement what they learnt effortlessly.
We also pay very close attention to the shifts around the world that affect human behavioral changes. Employees are extremely different now due to the massive amount of information made available to all of us. Consumers have shifted their attention to their mobile devices, and most of the attention in our world today is now on the 6-10 social sites. All these are critical to us when designing programs that are relevant to our clients in today’s world.

NLP is a highly powerful tool. However, its power has been grossly underestimated by just learning it in theory by most people. In order to fully utilize its potential, one needs to internalize it and put it into tactical applications. And that is where we focus on teaching NLP using NLP. This lets the participants visually see and experience what is being taught, so that they are able to duplicate the experience once they are out of the training room. It’s not important to me if participants remember the jargons and terminologies of NLP. My only focus is in the tactical applications.
When a corporate client engages me to conduct in house training or consultation, their sole objective is only bottom-line results. I have to bear in mind that every single thing I teach got to be as practical and actionable as possible.
How do you envision navigating through the NLP training industry in the years to come?
Those who are teaching theory will see themselves being put out of business in the near future. Corporate clients are savvy enough to sniff through the crowd and identify who truly knows their craft. I’m not a NLP guru, but a true practitioner and also a student of my own teachings. This is the single biggest reason why so many Fortune 500 companies choose us.
Moving forward, we are always working hard to update ourselves where human behavior is concerned. I have always been fascinated with how humans behave, and looking for trends that move consumer behaviors or human behaviors in general. We also spend a ton of time to understand the next big thing in the business and technology world and make sure that we are there before it happens. It’s good for our own business, and also helps our corporate clients to navigate through the challenge.
