Vinay Arora

COO - Infra Vertical ( SCL)

As per the American author John Maxwell, “A leader is someone who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way". The quote seems perfectly in synch with the professional voyage of Vinay Arora (COO, Motherson Group - Infra Vertical (SCL); a 48-year, passionate professional with hands-on expertise in Greenfield setup, Project Planning, process planning, execution, and more. Starting his career with 2W OEM, in planning and execution of various shops like machine shop, weld shop, engine assembly, frame assembly, and so on, Vinay slowly yet passionately started working on brown field projects and then green field projects, before plunging further into the sustainable infrastructure.

Vinay humbly admits that a comprehensive turnkey solution gives him the ultimate satisfaction and peace of mind and avers, “Within a short carrier span of 25 years, I have been lucky to work on more than 50 Greenfield projects & many brownfield projects globally". Currently Vinay’s association with the Motherson group gave him a platform to deal with numerous Green & Brownfield projects and almost double digit new plants every year. It’s amazing to lead the infra team for global set-up and as the COO of Motherson Group Infra Vertical(SCL). Vinay is currently leading his team to provide sustainable infrastructure to one of the most dynamic & visionary groups in the auto components sector in the world.

Vinay engages in an exclusive interaction with CEO Insights.

Define Motherson Group as an organization and its position in the industry? What is the USP of the firm?
The name Motherson is about purest relation & deep trust in the world i.e Mother & Son. As the story unfolds, a son borrowed some small money to start the business from Mother and the rest is history.
Evolving as a name of trust in the industry, Motherson is one of the fastest growing & most trusted auto parts company having operations in 42 countries, and is also regarded as one of the most preferred choices of all OEMs globally.

For any industry leader, the biggest challenge is always convincing the team that they can succeed and building a confidence in them

The strength & USP of Motherson is its open seamless culture and transparency. I don’t remember if any company leadership is so accessible as in Motherson, even any down the line team members on the shop floor has the same access of leadership as any management team member. What a visionary leadership from Chairman & Vice Chairman of Motherson Group.

What are the techniques or strategies you have acquired till now as an industry leader and how do you apply them in tackling complex situations in particular?
According to me, it is all about the fundamentals. In almost every industry, if you are clear about fundamentals, passionate about what you do, and taking quick as well as the right decision at right time, then no situation is complex. Of course there are very practical Motherson mantras for business, which we all follow and trust me those innovative aspects/mantras are not taught in any MBA class.

Reflect on some of the major challenges you have experienced in your journey so far? How did you overcome them and what did you learn from them?
For any industry leader, the biggest challenge is always convincing the team that they can succeed and create confidence in them. But for that, you may need to sacrifice on some personal front and demonstrate. If you can generate that positivity in your team, then nothing is impossible. Needless to mention you always need to be updated on market trends. Infrastructure is a small word, but it encompasses almost everything,
including design, planning, civil, utilities, mechanical and more. According to me, no institute can teach this at one place in one professional degree.

In your professional journey so far, share some of your most satisfactory milestones both at a personal and professional level?
I think the most satisfying moments were getting three platinum ratings from IGBC in manufacturing set up, creating many sustainable infrastructures by using a lot of patented technologies, and recently at Motherson getting used to making manufacturing plants with speed to reckon.

Going forward, what are the changes in market behavior that you anticipate, and what are the opportunities that you foresee?
Market or Customers have the repute of hosting the outlook of 'Yeh Dil Mange More'. Since everyone now needs the innovative infrastructure by tomorrow & at yesterday’s cost, so technology, new materials, controlling setup remotely and sustain ability are going to drive future infrastructure. Of course, COVID has played a major role in all of this, but as the future remains challenging & unpredictable, we should keep ourselves aligned with the technological innovations and advancements happening around the world.
