Phenomena such as the creation, detection, and manipulation of light waves fall under the umbrella of photonics. Public health has benefited greatly from the development of quick, cost-effective, and tailored therapies using photonics-based approaches. Optical photons travel quickly, and light waves may cross a variety of biological barriers without interfering with the intended results of these approaches. With over 20 years of research experience, Dr. Pramod Kumar is the Scientific Director of the Quant Lase Imaging Laboratory, equipped with expertise in Laser Technology and Quantum photonics to examine the benefits and difficulties of bringing new Photonics technology to the public realm. Dr. Pramod is the Principal Scientist of the Laser technology & Quantum Photonics division and the Director of Research at the QuantLase Imaging Laboratory in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The city of Abu Dhabi, which means the ‘land of the gazelle’, is the largest city in the UAE after Dubai. With a land area of 67,340 square kilometres, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is the largest emirate in the UAE, making up 87 percent of the total area of the UAE. The country’s economy is largely supported by natural resources. The Emirate is also making efforts to diversify its economy by growing its non-oil and knowledge-based sectors. Country is widely promoting investments in business, trade and SMEs. The business friendly atmosphere in the emirates is attracting people from different parts of the world to start business here. Especially we could see a flow of Indians to emirates to start business.
Indian Expatriate community is the largest ethnic group in the UAE constituting roughly 30 percent of the country’s population. According to the report of International Migrant Stock 2020 released by the Population Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), there are approx. 3.5 million Indians in the UAE. Amongst Indian states, Kerala is most represented followed by Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
In olden days, i.e, in 1970s and 1980s, the principal requirement of the country was blue collar jobs and Indian community in the UAE constituted 80-90 percent of blue collar workers. With increasing demand for professionals due to expanding service sectors. Today, about 35 percent of Indian expats in the UAE region is made up of professionally qualified personnel, businessmen & other white collar non-professionals and their families. There are many Indians working in government sectors. Some of the well known complexes and other business organisations in the Emirates belong to Indians.
