Sanjib Kakaty is a visionary technocrat who has initiated and nurtured many prospective business ventures under his able guidance. Sanjib an M.Tech in Applied Geology, has extensive knowledge of the techno-commercial aspects of India's energy sector and project implementation. He is a great proponent of the co-operative movement and was the driving force behind the establishment of a co-operative business in 1987. Sanjib brings in 25 years of experience in business leadership and transforming prospects into reality and he currently serves on the boards of directors of five companies providing different services. Assam's economy is principally based on agriculture, and the state has the largest tea growing area in the world, constituting around one-seventh of the global tea production. In 2020-21, the tea production in the state stood at 503.46 thousand tonnes, roughly 39.12 percent of the total tea production in India during the time. Moreover, in FY21, the total tea exports from Assam accounted for $217.89 million, which was 64 percent of the total export. Additionally, the state also has 20 industrial estates, three industrial growth centres, 11 Integrated Infrastructure Development Depots, 17 industrial areas, 12 growth centres, eight mini industrial estates, one export promotion park and one food processing industrial park. Assam is largely involved in the export of key items like petroleum products, coal, coke and briquettes and other products, other than tea. Well, the state is also recognized as a great tourist destination among the northeast states.
And, while Assam's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) was accounted to have grown at a CAGR of 12.38% between 2015-16, it was further projected to reach Rs. 4.09 trillion in 2020-21. However, owing to its relative proximity to the rest of the country and availability of quality infrastructures, it also offers a favourable environment for other business and industries. Entrepreneurs are dynamically choosing Assam as the destination for greater industrial growth and the five major types of industries that Assam prolifically serves rein around are Tea, Coal, Oil and gas, Limestone and Cement, Agriculture, and Food processing. There are many leaders in Assam who need to be celebrated for their accomplishing dexterity in driving the industries amidst these sectors.
