Economy of Odisha is one of the fastest growing economies in India. The state has an agriculture based economy which is in transition towards an industry and service-based economy. The state has achieved an annual average growth rate of 6.23 percent during last six years. The state economy is recovering at a very fast rate from the economic setback caused by the pandemic. It has registered a growth rate much higher than India’s Gross Domestic Product growth rate of 8.8 percent as per the first advance estimate of economic survey report. During its journey in the last two decades, the state has also become a pioneering leader in disaster management.
The government of the state is sensing opportunity to be hub for accommodating the next phase of ramp-up with IT and ITeS sector, after the state being one of the firsts to get the top four IT companies to set up centres on its land. The government is keen and is opening up opportunities for IT and BPO firms. But the state is also careful to ensure a organic growth. The state is also eyeing to tap players who are keen to shift their entrenched bases from China to other cost competitive locations.
