Top 10 Leaders In Electronic System Design & Manufacturing - 2021
The high internet penetration in India due to low rates of data has led India to hold the position of second largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world with $30 billion production in 2019-20. In addition to smartphones, there has been a substantial spike in the demand in all electronic products in the country. The Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) sector plays a vital role in the government's goal of generating $1 trillion of economic value from the digital economy by 2025, which explains why the government is taking initiatives such as Make in India, Digital India and Startup India, which are boosting the production and assembly activities of electronic products. Also, the government has implemented a scheme on skill development in ESDM sector to increase employability and encourage youth to begin more `Manufacturing' and `Service Support' functions.
The demand for electronic goods in India is expected to rise from $33 billion in FY20 to $400 billion by 2025. The export of electronic goods was valued $1.03 billion in 2021, which proves that despite the bright predictions, the country's ESDM sector is still small and is not able to meet the demand of the Indian consumers. This opens a wide door of opportunities for business in this sector for a country which constitutes one sixth of world's population with 661 million mobile users. At present, the electronics manufacturing sector accounts for 2.5 percent of India's GDP, and employs over 13 million people through direct and indirect jobs.
This issue of the CEO Insights magazine introduces you to a list of ‘Top 10 Leaders in Electronic System Design & Manufacturing 2021' who have helped in the transformation and growth of the ESDM sector of the country. The list has been crafted by a team of industry veterans, CEOs, VCs and the CEO Insights editorial team, thus delivering inspiring stories of their journey and the contributions & roles played by them in the creation and empowerment of a powerful nation.
