    EHospitals are the institution providing medical & surgical treatment and nursing care for any ill or injured people. The hospital industry has travelled a long journey from a time when hospitals were used to be synonym to temples or home where people used to go to take complete rest and wait till death. Today, hospitals are a hi-tech organizations. If a patient recalls his hospital stay, he will have a memory of being surrounded by electronic gadgets, hi-tech equipment, doctors, nurses with computer, notebook, pen drives and everything being processed with computers. Therefore, the rapid development and advancement of technology, influence of money in the lives of people, policies of the government, health insurance, medical tourism, and more have changed the total scenario of hospitals in the new millennium. The shift is from the care of sick and treating the patient as an agent of god to treating patient as customer and providing quality care, which is the need based as developing the hospitals as centre of excellence and profit making organizations.

    India’s competitive advantage lies in its large pool of well-trained medical professionals. India is also cost competitive compared to its peers in Asia and Western countries. The cost of surgery in India is about one tenth of that in the US or Western Europe. The Indian healthcare sector which was worth $110 billion in 2016, is expected to record a three-fold rise, growing at a CAGR of 22 percent between 2016–2022 and reach $372 billion in 2022. By FY22, Indian healthcare infrastructure is expected to reach $349.1 billion.

    The importance of effective leaders in hospitals ensuring a highquality health care system that consistently provides safe and efficient care has been reiterated in the scholarly literature and various government reports. Effective hospital leadership is associated with optimal hospital performance. It is allied to a wide range of hospital functions and is an integral component of the healthcare system. Developing hospital leadership skills among hospital nurses and other health professionals is of critical importance. The roles of hospital leaders were identified as a supporter, change manager, advocate, project manager, manager, facilitator, and champion.
