M.K Ganesan, the man who left a 3 decades of remarkable legacy founded Prism Surface Coatings and turned it into a global manufacturer and supplier of paints and coatings. In 2019, when he passed away due to cancer, his son Preetam Kumar Ganesan took the helm of the company. M.K Ganesan built the brand brick by brick in 1988 and made it into the world's leading seller. The company conferred two National Awards for Excellence and Exports. But with the untimely death of this maven, came many challenges to the brand. The contemporaries began to publish the false fall of Prism. With the pain of losing his father on one side and defamatory rumors on the other, Preetam continued to leap towards success and surged ahead with even stronger dedication, unwavering willingness, and profound determination.

Paints and coating industry is one of the fastest growing industries in India. Its possibilities are endless, being inevitable in end-user industries like automotive, construction, marine, oil and gas, metallurgy, aerospace, and mining as both decoration and protection against corrosion. Success in the paint and coatings industry relies heavily on innovation and the continual advancement of science & technology into new frontiers. Today, coatings with different properties like corrosion & fire protection coating, antidust coating, easy cleanable coatings and more are available in the market. About 55 percent of total paintings produced are used in the constructions and 35 percent is used in industrial purpose the remaining coatings are called special purpose coatings and are used for miscellaneous applications such as traffic paints, vehicle refinishing, high performance coatings for industrial plants and equipment, and protection of marine structures and vessels.’
There are numerous new coating technologies developed in past few decades like water borne coatings, high solids coatings, two component systems, powder coatings, and radiation-curable coatings. Integration of nanotechnology in coating is the latest trending technology in this industry. Very small ceramic or metallic particles can be added to paint formulations to modify specific properties (e.g, scratch, mar, and wear, corrosion, and UV resistance) in highly specialized applications. The regulations being more stringent like air pollution regulations and environmental regulations to limit emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) & hazardous air pollutants(HAPs) along with the energy conservation and rising solvent & raw material costs are the contributing factors behind the development of new technologies.
