| | MARCH 20254The UAE's health sector was one of the most underrated stories containing the COVID-19 pandemic. Like in many other parts of the world, the pandemic was a turning point in UAE's healthcare journey. The recently held Arab Health 2025 medical expo manifests this change comprehensively. Emirates Health Services (EHS) showcased an array of groundbreaking projects, most of them unprecedented in the region and the world, under the theme 'The Future of Healthcare.' This includes cutting-edge technologies developed to revolutionize chronic disease management and elevate the quality of life for patients. Two pioneering projects that caught the most eyeballs were Total Artificial Heart and Islet Cell Allo-Transplantation. The projects marked a major stride in treating chronic conditions like heart disease and type 1 diabetes, reinforcing EHS' commitment to driving Emirates toward a brighter future for healthcare. This can be read adjacent to the National Strategy for Wellbeing 2031, which aims to enhance medical services for optimized community wellbeing. In truth, the UAE healthcare industry is also attracting high levels of foreign investment. According to reports, the healthcare market in the Emirates is projected to reach $2.5 billion in 2025, driven by numerous factors, including increased investment, medical tourism, and a growing population. Intrinsically, this creates significant demand for medical professionals, and India is one of the most substantial suppliers of healthcare talent. It is reported that as of 2025, approximately 25,000 Indian doctors are working in the UAE. We dedicate this yearly special issue to them.
