| | NOVEMBER 20238State-run oil and gas companies Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) and Gas Authority of India (GAIL) inked a 15-year propane supply agreement for GAIL's new petrochemical plant at Usar, Maharashtra, in a significant development that could drastically alter the petrochemical landscape in India.The projected value of the 15-year supply contract is more than Rs 63,000 crore. GAIL will purchase 600 KTPA of propane from BPCL's LPG import facility in Uran in accordance with the conditions of the agreement. This facility might handle up to 3 MMTPA of propane and butane imports, which presently manages 1 MMTPA of LPG imports.Kamlesh Sharma, Executive Director (Marketing Retail), GAIL, and D. V. Mamadapur, Executive Director (LPG), BPCL, signed the agreement in the presence of Sukhmal Jain, Director (Marketing), BPCL, and Sanjay Kumar, Director (Marketing), GAIL.India's first propane pp dehydrogenation (PDH) facility is planned to start operations in 2025 and is part of GAIL's Usar PDH-PP project in Maharashtra. With a 500 KTPA capacity, this PDH unit will be linked with a 500 KTPA polypropylene (PP) facility. By 2025, the nation's polypropylene consumption is expected to rise from 4.9 million tonnes in 2020 to 6.3 million tonnes. Deepesh Nanda has been appointed as President-Renewables and CEO & MD of Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, effective November 1, 2023. Tata Power, one of India's leading integrated power providers, announced this. Ashish Khanna steps down as President, Generation Business, and is replaced by Nanda. According to a press release from Tata Power, Nanda brings 28 years of vast expertise from firms such as GE, Flowserve, and Tyco."Nanda joins Tata Power from GE Gas Power, where he was the Chief Executive Officer for South Asia, overseeing operations in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Nepal. He was additionally President & CEO of GE's Aero-derivative Gas Turbine business segment for Asia".From Annamalai University, Nanda received her degree in Mechanical and Production Engineering. He completed leadership training at GE Crotonville and studied for an MBA at the Open University Business School in Milton Keynes, UK. Driving the expansion and financial success of Tata Power's renewable energy portfolio, which includes solar, wind, hybrid, and B2C green energy solutions, will be Nanda's primary responsibility in his new position. He will also oversee innovation and digital transformation projects within the renewable energy industry.A key portion of the Generation business cluster, which includes the company's forthcoming pumped hydro storage projects, hydro plants, and other new efforts aside from the current hydro and thermal plants in India and abroad, is led by Ashish Khanna, a veteran of Tata Power.
