| | DECEMBER 20224As an academic hub, India is recognized globally for its premier engineering institutes like IITs and NITs. It's no secret that students from these colleges are at the top of the business world and behind some of the world's unicorns. Over the past several decades, they have been at the forefront of innovations, producing fantastic business ideas and creating a safer, better, sustainable world. Indeed, it all starts from within the campus' research-oriented academia. The students from these institutes often find simpler solutions to the most complex societal problems. The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NIT-K), Surathkal, recently developed an electrically powered vehicle for collecting and transporting segregated organic waste generated on the institute's campus. The vehicle named `VidYug7.1 E-Trike' was designed and manufactured by the Centre for System Design at the NIT-K with funding support under the Campus Waste to Energy Project (CWEP) sponsored by the 1981 batch alumni. While this solves the campus' lingering waste management problem, it also marks a lesson of self-reliance and sustainability for the students. A tremendous amount of credit goes to the campus faculty. Their research-oriented mindset is commendable. Indeed, one of the faculty members of NIT-K has recently received an Indian patent for creating a cement mortar brick, which contains a bacteria that makes it superior to the conventional ones in terms of strength and life of the structure, as it possesses a self-healing property.Formerly known as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC), NIT-K was founded in 1960. It is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. We dedicate this issue to the prestigious alumni of NIT-K.Do let us know your thoughts.Sujith VasudevanManaging Editoreditor@ceoinsightsindia.comThe Self-Reliant, Sustainable NIT-KEditorial Vol 04 · Issue 5 - 1 ·DECEMBER, 2022 Publisher Alok Chaturvedi Managing Editor Sujith Vasudevan Manager - DesignPrabhu Dutta A.R.N RayAssistant EditorHeena Kousar NoidaRohit Raghubanshi Garima Anandadvertise@ceoinsightsindia.comEditorial queries editor@ceoinsightsindia.comTo subscribeVisit www.ceoinsightsindia.com/subscribe/ or send emailto subscription@ceoinsightsindia.comMagazine Price is Rs. 150 per issueEditor Alok ChaturvediPrinted and Published By Alok Chaturvedi on behalf of Info Connect Web Technolo-gies India Pvt.
