| | NOVEMBER 20244Market researchers consistently show that the global semiconductor market is expected to grow at a CAGR of almost 10 percent till 2030, reaching $1080.83 billion. It's evident that the demand is soaring, and we need more semiconductor manufacturing hubs. India is a strong contender. It's not a coincidence that Nvidia recently showed huge interest in collaborating with India to develop a new AI chip, which will enable them to tap into the country's huge talent in semiconductor design. The CEO of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, has had an extensive talk with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the light of a potential partnership during their meeting in the US earlier this year. However, this is not the only avenue Nvidia is exploring. The company has been making partnerships with top academic institutions in India as well. A few months ago, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology signed an MoU with Nvidia to establish Thapar School of Advanced AI & Data Science. The pact was inked by R R Vederah, Chairman, Board of Governors at Thapar University and Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director - Asia South at NVIDIA. In the aftermath of the agreement, the institute will establish the `Thapar School of Advanced AI & Data Science (TSAAI)' at its campus in Patiala, Punjab. TIET will also develop a dedicated data center powered by NVIDIA DGX systems. Additionally, NVIDIA will also proffer the benefits of its inception program that supports startups to qualifying TIET-incubated AI startups. We are delighted to feature some of the prestigious alumni of the institute in this yearly special issue.
