A Resilient Workplace - The Need of 2021 & Beyond

Agility alone may be worthless. You also need resilience to be that ‘winner’. The past few months have just tuned the reset button and left organizations to think beyond the commons that made their workplace a great workplace. Today despite doing what you love, you will encounter obstacles, challenges and setbacks that will test your jovial attitude. Hence being resilience is the only way forward for the organizations.

And why does including resilience in your workplace becomes so important? It is because despite so many things around, you can control only one thing in life, and that is yourself. Hence companied need to prepare their employees for the future, which means preparing them for the future. Hence the more time companies get to prepare for the necessary changes, the more likely it is for their employees to be ready for the future.

It is also important to provide adequate training and learning to the employees to understand the duties and responsibilities. This will provide more in-depth knowledge about their role, which will induce them to achieve their long term goals and help them succeed. The need to help & encourage them to identify the choice of their job which will motivate them to find meaning in their work, increase their productivity and bring efficiency to their job. This will help elevate the organization’s reputation among the competition and the job market.

Another most important step is for the companies to first acknowledge the fact that their employees are burnt out. And the next step is to heed on their stress levels. Increased stress level results in diminishing productivity that will impede the progress of the organization. Hence the efforts should come from both the ends – companies & employees. Companies should focus on helping employees deal with stress, while employees should open up about workplace stressors and discuss it with their organization. Companies also need to develop analytical skills in their employees to ensure their problem solving skills help them get through any tough situation.

While all the above are excellent steps to make any organization workplace a resilient one, everything will fail if employees don’t focus on their mental wellbeing. Especially the pandemic has thrown multiple hurdles on the way of mental wellbeing – increasing social distancing, burnout, increasing stress to balance work & life, and more. Adding to these woes is the disconnect among the employees, and hence organizations need to include online team building activities, social connectivity through various tools, and sessions to boost psychologically and robust communication system. Workers wellbeing and psychological security need to extend beyond the walls of the workplace. While such programs may seem like table stakes, it cannot be overlooked in any phase of employee stress mitigation. More so, be resilient, transparent, empathetic and authentic.

Above all, be compassionate to yourself!
