Air India & Singapore Airlines Expand Codeshare
Air India and Singapore Airlines announced the significant expansion of their codeshare, boosting travel options between India, Singapore, and international destinations. It is the most extensive expansion in their partnership since 2010, intended to benefit passengers with convenient and accessible connectivity.
From 27 October 2024, the two airlines will codeshare on each other's flights between Singapore and Bengaluru and Chennai in India. More cooperation will increase the combined week-to-week flights between both countries from the current 14 to 56. This would make traveling between the two countries naturally seem more flexible and less of a timetable grind.
Under this strengthened partnership, Singapore Airlines will codeshare on Air India's domestic sectors, thus providing seamless connectivity to cities like Amritsar, Bengaluru, Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Goa and Kolkata from the key hubs of Delhi and Mumbai. For its part, Air India passengers would be able to travel on 29 international destinations in SIA's large network, which includes major cities of Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.
Customers of SIA will also be able to connect to Air India's international flights from Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai to 12 other key destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa including Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, and Nairobi.
The two airlines claimed to further expand the codeshare cities network, therefore, offering options of more and more cities to the traveler. New codeshared flights will soon be available for reservation following receipt of the relevant regulatory clearances.
Chief Commercial Officer of Air India Nipun Aggarwal said that the codeshare will boost customer travel choice and connectivity in markets of Asia, beyond, and more. Singapore Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Lee Lik Hsin said that as demand for air travel between India and Singapore continues to grow, the partnership meets this need, and also supports development of both airlines' respective markets.
"This expansion of Singapore Airlines' codeshare agreements with Air India epitomizes the deep-seated cooperative spirit between our two airlines", said Lee Lik Hsin. "It underlines our commitment to capitalizing on the massive air travel demand in India and offering greater connectivity and ease of travel for customers in that country, a major growth market for the SIA Group".
