Air India to Expand Luggage Check-In for International Travellers
Air India has collaborated with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Delhi International Airport (DIAL) to introduce a check-in service for international air travellers at two metro stations in Delhi: New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium, operating from 7 am to 9 pm. Initially accessible for domestic flights, this service is now extended to international passengers. This innovative partnership allows travellers to check in their baggage at the metro station, granting them the freedom to explore the city without the hassle of carrying luggage. DMRC and DIAL have established a secure and automated infrastructure to ensure the seamless transfer of baggage from the metro station to the aircraft.
For domestic flights, passengers can utilize the check-in facility between 12 hours and 2 hours before the scheduled departure, while for international flights, the window is between 4 hours and 2 hours prior to departure. Rajesh Dogra, Air India's Chief Customer Experience Officer, emphasized the airline's dedication to enhancing passengers' travel experience. He stated that this initiative not only offers a cost-effective option for travellers from distant locations but also helps alleviate congestion at the airport, ultimately enhancing the overall customer experience.
Additionally, Air India recently revised its policy concerning free check-in baggage allowance on domestic flights. The allowance for the lowest economy fare segment has been reduced from 20kg to 15kg, aligning with the menu-based pricing model fare families introduced last August. The airline believes this change better caters to the diverse needs of passengers. Previously, Air India allowed passengers on domestic flights to carry 25kg of check-in baggage without any extra fees. In comparison, other domestic carriers such as IndiGo, Vistara, and SpiceJet provided a free check-in baggage allowance of 15 kg.
This collaborative effort between Air India, DMRC, and DIAL reflects a commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. By leveraging technology and strategic partnerships, Air India aims to provide passengers with a seamless and enjoyable travel experience, from check-in to baggage handling, contributing to a more efficient and convenient journey for travellers.
