Private equity firm Kedaara-backed Ami Lifesciences, the manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediates, announced the appointment of Amit Kaptain as chief executive officer. As part of the Ami Life sciences senior management team, Kaptain will be responsible for building business strategy and long standing global partnerships with leading pharma ceutical companies by developing products in niche therapeutic areas, and thereby becoming a reliable partner of choice from India.
Ami Lifesciences was started in 2004 by a first-generation entrepreneur, Girish Chovatia. Kedaara acquired a significant minority in Ami Lifesciences in February 2020. This is Kedaara's first investment in the API sector, and second investment in healthcare. Ami is growing at over 25 percent annually and clocked revenues of Rs. 550 crores in FY22.

In order to become one of India's pure-play third-party API players, Ami and Kedaara have embarked upon the journey of augmenting the leadership team. Kaptain's recruitment is the first step in that direction. Kaptain has over 20 years of experience in the API industry, he has worked with companies such as Dr. Reddy's, Ranbaxy, and Sun Pharma. Prior to joining Ami, Kaptain worked as COO at Aurore Lifesciences.
