Andhra Pradesh to Revamp its Education Model with the Launch of LEAP

According to reports, Andhra Pradesh is revamping its education model this month with the launch of LEAP (Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh), aimed at improving learning outcomes for students, according to Education Minister Nara Lokesh. Play-based curriculum, pedagogy training and an AI-driven remedial assessment program, Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), are among the major highlights of the model.
"Andhra Pradesh is pioneering a new era of education through LEAP - focusing on foundational learning, global best practices, and inclusive growth," Lokesh says.
The model will be launched in the 2025-26 academic year.
The Minister clarified that the government's goal is to develop a top-tier education system in the state by 2029 by implementing an outcome-focused strategy to provide students with technical, leadership, and practical skills using AI and other advanced technologies.
He noted that the necessity for the new model was highlighted by important reports, such as the ASER survey, which indicated inadequate learning results.
The infrastructure overhaul incorporates Building as Learning Aid (BaLA) and classrooms filled with printed materials in all pre-primary and primary grades.
"Inclusion of girl child toilets and other basic facilities like electricity and water connections in AWCs will also be ensured," according to reports.
The curriculum and pedagogy revamp will include a revised curriculum aligned with NEP 2020 goals, 21st-century skills, digital literacy and holistic learning in primary and upper primary.
Additionally, the overhaul will include education focused on values and a greater emphasis on extracurricular activities at every level. Bridge courses will also be available for students moving into Grades 6 and 9.
The official mentioned that summer learning packets, which consist of assignments, assessments, and tailored learning resources aimed at preparing students in grades 6 to 8 for the next school year, will also be provided.
The official also mentioned that offering prescriptive learning tools and e-content derived from assessment data is on the agenda.
