BHEL Secures Rs 11,000 Crore Contract from Adani Power
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a major contract worth over Rs 11,000 crore from Adani Power Limited (APL) and its subsidiary, Mahan Energen Limited (MEL), for three supercritical thermal power projects. The agreement, excluding GST, was signed on Sunday, August 25.
The projects will include the supply of critical equipment, along with the supervision of erection and commissioning processes for the power plants. The plants, each with a capacity of 2x800 MW, will be based on advanced supercritical technology. The locations for these projects are Kawai Phase-II and Kawai Phase-III in Rajasthan, and Mahan Phase-III in Madhya Pradesh.
BHEL’s scope of work involves providing a comprehensive range of equipment, including Boilers, Turbines, Generators, and associated auxiliaries. The contract also covers the installation of control and instrumentation systems, with BHEL overseeing their commissioning to ensure the projects meet all operational and performance standards.
The timeline for project completion varies across the sites. The Kawai Phase-II project is targeted for completion within 49 months, Kawai Phase-III within 52 months, and Mahan Phase-III within 55 months. These timelines highlight the scale and complexity of the projects while emphasizing BHEL’s commitment to delivering within the stipulated periods.
This contract, awarded by domestic entities APL and MEL, marks a significant milestone for India’s power infrastructure. It reaffirms BHEL’s pivotal role in advancing the country’s energy sector. Additionally, BHEL clarified that the contracts are not related party transactions and have been conducted at arm's length, with no involvement of any promoter or group companies in the awarding process.
