BPCL Unveils Indigenous EPA-Grade Diesel, Boosting India's Energy Sector
In a significant stride for India's energy sector, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) proudly introduced its indigenous EPA-Grade Diesel during the India Energy Week in Goa. The unveiling ceremony, graced by the presence of Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, and BPCL C&MD G Krishnakumar, signals a strategic shift towards bolstering self-reliance and fostering innovation in the industry.
The breakthrough achieved by the Kochi Refinery in developing EPA-Grade Diesel, a product traditionally sourced at a premium from Germany, leverages India's advanced refining capabilities. This development is poised to cater to the escalating demands of the US export market while ensuring compliance with rigorous international standards.
G. Krishnakumar, Chairman & Managing Director of BPCL, highlighted the significance of this achievement, stating, "Today marks a pivotal moment in our journey towards sustainable energy solutions. The launch of indigenous EPA-Grade Diesel at our Kochi Refinery underscores our relentless commitment to innovation and self-reliance in powering the nation's growth".
This homegrown production not only eliminates the reliance on imports but also streamlines the engine development, calibration, and testing processes for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The initiative by BPCL is set to reduce both time and costs associated with overseas procurement, ensuring the timely fulfillment of export operations. This, in turn, curbs foreign exchange outflows and fortifies India's economic resilience. The move by BPCL signifies a significant step towards energy self-sufficiency, aligning with the nation's commitment to sustainability and reducing dependence on foreign markets.
