Canara Bank and NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd (NBBL) have launched cross-border inward bill payment services for Indians living in Oman. According to a statement issued on Wednesday, NRIs can now use the robust platform provided by the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) to make bill payments on behalf of their families via the Musandam Exchange.

Canara Bank is the first public sector bank in India to offer inbound cross-border bill payments via BBPS, according to the company.

According to the announcement, Indians living in Oman will now be able to make quick, simple, and secure payments for services back home.

According to the statement, Musandam Exchange, managed by Canara Bank, is also the first exchange house in Oman to accept cross-border inbound bill payments.

In Kuwait, the cross-border bill payment service is already operational, facilitating inbound remittances for utilities such as electricity, water, mobile phone, gas, credit card bills and others.

NRIs in Oman will now enjoy these benefits for the first time, marking an important juncture in India's digital payments journey, it said, adding that the service provides a much-needed option to Indian expatriates who have previously had to rely on traditional methods to pay their domestic bills.

"This initiative is in line with our commitment to provide innovative and customer-centric solutions to our clients," Canara Bank managing director K Satyanarayana Raju said.

He expressed confidence that this facility will improve our NRI customers' banking experiences and strengthen relationships with them.
