State-owned CIL's payment to the government exchequer decreased 4.7 percent to Rs 5,832.69 crore last month compared to the same period last year.

In March FY24, Coal India Ltd., which produces more than 80 percent of the coal produced in the country, paid Rs 6,126.42 crore to the federal and state exchequer.

In FY24, CIL paid out Rs 60,197.8 crore, according to government provisional figures.

A maximum of Rs 14,047.44 crore of the Rs 60,959.52 crore given to the government exchequer in 2024–2025 went to Jharkhand, followed by Odisha with Rs 12,979.20 crore, Madhya Pradesh with Rs 11,351.84 crore, and Chhattisgarh with Rs 11,303.76 crore.

The District Mineral Foundation (DMF), the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET), and royalties were among the sources of income for the coal-producing states.

The states that produce fossil fuels have seen significant economic growth as a result of the coal mining industry.

In 2024–2025, CIL produced 781.1 MT of coal, which was over seven percent less than the company's goal for the fiscal year.

A production target of 838 million tons (MT) was set for 2024–2025.

However, compared to the previous year, CIL's coal production increased by a meager one percent in FY25.
