Colt DCS Plans New Data Centre in Chennai to Expand Presence in Asia-Pacific
Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS), a prominent global supplier of hyperscale and extensive enterprise data center solutions, has disclosed its expansion into Southern India through the procurement of a fresh 10-acre site in Chennai. The company aims to establish a hyperscale data center in the burgeoning digital center of Ambattur, Chennai by the year 2027.
As India's fifth-largest city by GDP, Chennai boasts a sizable and rapidly expanding digital market, aiming to achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2030. With the nation's fastest network speeds and serving as a crucial landing point for fiber networks, Chennai serves as a direct link between India and the global community. Colt DCS' move to expand into this region will bolster the swift digital transformation of local industries by furnishing the necessary IT power capacity, security measures, and accessibility for businesses seeking to enhance their operational scale.
Expanding Colt DCS' growth trajectory, the new site will signify its 18th data center globally, furnishing the essential infrastructure capacity to accommodate the swift digitalization of industries, widespread adoption of cloud services, and the emergence of cutting-edge technologies like AI. This initiative further strengthens Colt DCS's footprint in India following the successful completion of phase one and the onboarding of the first customer at its Mumbai data center. The new facility is poised to provide a minimum of 70 MW of IT capacity. With India's digital market experiencing rapid expansion, partnering with a seasoned provider boasting a solid local track record in constructing large-scale data centers enables multinational corporations to tap into this burgeoning and competitive landscape. Similar to other recent Colt DCS data center projects, this expansive site offers customers ample capacity to accommodate their growth needs.
Richard Wellbrock, Chief Commercial Officer at Colt DCS, said, "India's digitization efforts are accelerating, driving continued economic development. We view the Indian data centre market as a significant opportunity for growth and remain dedicated to supporting its development. The establishment of our new site in Chennai doubles our commitment to this market, enabling us to facilitate better the expansion of our customers into this thriving region".
Pratap Mane, Country Head India, at Colt DCS, said, "Chennai has always been a strategically important location for us for our expansion plans in India due to the presence of multiple cable landing stations and large enterprise businesses. We expect the demand for data centres to continue to grow exponentially with the increased digitization adoption of AI and cloud services in India. The Tamil Nadu State Government on its part has been very proactive and is keen to develop Chennai as the number one destination for data centres in India. Colt DCS will deliver this project with global standards, sustainable design and high build quality for our hyperscale & large enterprise clients".
