CovestCovestro (India) Private Limited has unveiled a new ultra-timer production facility at its Ankleshwar site in Gujarat, marking a significant milestone for the company and the Indian manufacturing sector. This facility, the first of its kind in India, is poised to enhance local manufacturing capabilities and reinforce India's position as a global manufacturing powerhouse. It also underscores Covestro India’s commitment to the “Make in India” initiative.

The new plant will focus on producing a range of Desmodur® ultra trimer products, which are crucial for various applications including consumer electronics, construction, automotive, and wooden furniture. The launch aligns with Covestro’s strategy to meet the growing demand for high-performance and eco-friendly solutions in the coatings and adhesives sector across the Asia Pacific region. Production of the initial batch of Desmodur® ultra trimer products is anticipated to begin in Q4 of 2024.

Desmodur® ultra trimer products are known for their exceptional durability and resistance to environmental factors such as UV light, solvents, and physical wear. Thomas Roemer, Global Head of Covestro’s Coatings and Adhesives Business Entity, emphasized the company's ongoing investment in production capacity across Asia. This investment aims to bolster Covestro’s market leadership in the aliphatic isocyanates industry and deliver high-quality products to clients throughout the region.

The Ankleshwar plant is Covestro’s fourth dedicated facility for manufacturing Trimer products, joining similar plants in China, Germany, and the USA. Anand Khot, Head of Coatings and Adhesives APAC at Covestro, highlighted that this investment is geared towards improving the localization of differentiated Desmodur® ultra trimer products. It aligns with industry trends towards low VOC emissions, high performance, and enhanced efficiency in coatings and adhesives.

Furthermore, the facility employs advanced technology designed to significantly reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable manufacturing practices. This initiative supports Covestro’s goals of advancing circularity and achieving carbon neutrality, contributing to a more sustainable chemical industry.
