Delhi Government EV Policy 2.0 Urges Phasing Out CNG-driven Auto Rickshaws

CNG-powered auto rickshaws should be phased out, according to the draft of the Delhi government's electric vehicle (EV) policy 2.0, which is expected to be released soon.
According to the proposed EV Policy 2.0, starting on August 15 of this year, CNG auto rickshaw registration will be prohibited.
Beginning on August 15 of this year, CNG auto licenses will no longer be renewed; instead, only e-auto permits will be used in their place.
During the policy period, all CNG auto rickshaws older than ten years must be replaced or converted to run on batteries.
The draft policy also strongly recommends that starting on August 15, 2026, two-wheelers powered by gasoline, diesel, or compressed natural gas (CNG) will not be permitted.
In the same way, it suggests that starting on August 15, 2025, goods transporters will not be permitted to register three-wheelers powered by diesel, gasoline, or CNG.
Additionally, the draft EV Policy 2.0 requires that all waste collection trucks owned or leased by the Delhi Jal Board, New Delhi Municipal Council, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi undergo a phased transition to electric vehicles in order to reach a fleet that is all electric by December 31, 2027.
Additionally, it suggests that DRC and DIMTS public transportation buses be converted to e-buses.
At the start of the policy, the DTC and DIMTS will exclusively purchase electric buses for intra-city operations and BS VI for interstate service.
Furthermore, private automobile owners will only be able to purchase electric vehicles if they currently own two. Following notice of the EV Policy 2.0, this recommendation will go into effect.

The cabinet's ratification of the draft policy could result in amendments, especially to the advice regarding two-wheelers.
