DP World and Reliance Industries have joined hands to roll out a groundbreaking logistics solution for the petrochemical sector, moving product transportation from road to rail and greatly reducing carbon emissions.

According to reports, the new service is expected to link Reliance Industries' Jamnagar facility in Gujarat to DP World's inland container depot (ICD) in Ahmedabad, and then to the port of Mundra.

The round trip from Mundra to Jamnagar and back required roughly 700 km of road transport for every container over the years.

The new solutions is said to have the Ahmedabad-Jamnagar-Mundra route, also approximately 700km, converted to rail, while eliminating the environmental and operational challenges that come with long-distance road transport when maintaining the same coverage.

The integrated rail service is observed to transport as much as 1,260 tonnes of cargo while consolidating up to 45 containers in one trip, enhancing the logistics process and minimizing the necessity for multiple trailers and drivers.

 

By cutting out over 700 km of road transport per container, this rail solution could significantly lower carbon emissions and support Reliance's environmental objectives.

According to Ganesh Raj, Global Chief Operating Officer of DP World Marine Services, this novel method not only aligns with Reliance's commitments to sustainability but also promotes greater efficiency, smooth coordination, and timely exports to meet their increasing operational needs.

Ravikumar Nair, head of SCM operations for Reliance Industries Ltd's Petchem division, mentioned that the transition from road to rail has simplified their operations, decreased carbon emissions, eliminated the need for 45 road trailer movements, and strengthened their dedication to responsible and effective supply chain practices.
