Dr. Karamjeet Singh Appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University
Renowned academician Dr. Karamjeet Singh has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar. The appointment, which is for a three-year term, was announced through an order from the Governor’s secretariat.
Dr Karamjeet Singh, who holds an MCom and a PhD degree in Finance, brings with him 38 years of teaching and research experience. Before his appointment, he was serving as the vice-chancellor of Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala, since 2020.
Throughout his career, Dr Singh has held various administrative positions, including being a syndicate member of Panjab University, Chandigarh, and a member of UGC Expert Committee. He was also conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023 for his significant contributions to the field of education.
Dr. Karamjeet Singh has succeeded Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu as the new Vice-Chancellor of GNDU, following Dr. Sandhu's tenure from June 2017 to November 16. This appointment comes after concerns were raised by Gurjeet Singh Aujla, a Congress Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar, who pointed out that the university had been operating without a vice-chancellor for the first time in its history.
