Dr. Y.C. Chang Wins Master Entrepreneur Award at APEA 2024
The Asia Pacific Enterprise Awards (APEA) 2024, a prestigious accolade recognizing exceptional business leadership in the region, honored Dr. Y.C. Chang, Managing Director of FETC International, with the 'Master Entrepreneur Award' at a ceremony held in Taipei. This recognition celebrates Dr. Chang’s outstanding contributions and visionary leadership in advancing Taiwan’s electronic toll collection (ETC) system and smart parking services through digital transformation and green mobility.
The award was presented to Dr. Chang by Dr. Fong Chan Onn, Chairman of Enterprise Asia, and Dr. Niven Huang, Managing Director of KPMG Sustainability Consulting Company Limited in Taiwan. This accolade follows Dr. Chang’s previous honor, the Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award, received at the 2023 ITS World Congress.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Chang underscored the importance of green and smart transportation as critical trends for global sustainability. He highlighted FETC’s dedication to realizing Chairman Douglas Hsu’s vision of making Taiwan’s transportation systems more efficient and environmentally friendly. This commitment is exemplified by FETC’s recent expansion of ETC services into parking solutions, integrating driving, parking, and vehicle use, and benefiting millions of drivers across Taiwan.
Dr. Chang also discussed FETC’s internal transformation, focusing on the evolution of talent development from operational roles to entrepreneurial and service-oriented teams. This strategic shift has been pivotal in fostering a culture of innovation within the company.
Dr. Chang remarked, “This award symbolizes not only individual leadership but also the collective effort of the FETC team and our strategic partnerships with the government over nearly two decades. In this digital transformation era, standing out requires a concerted team effort”.
The APEA jury praised Taiwan’s Multi-Lane Free-Flow (MLFF) ETC system as a benchmark for intelligent transportation in Asia. They commended Dr. Chang’s visionary approach in extending ETC services beyond highways and leading the export of Taiwan’s intelligent transportation systems (ITS) technology to countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and India, fostering sustainable green transportation solutions across Southeast Asia.
