FSSAI Enforces Stricter Checks on Dairy Alternatives

The festival season is approaching, bringing a time of joy and celebration for both consumers and vendors, as there will be a significant increase in demand for dairy products during this season. However, this comes with a significant drawback. Recently, you may have noticed that dairy products like paneer, butter, ghee, curd, etc., are being sold at prices much lower than usual, which attracts consumers who lack knowledge about the after-effects of their consumption.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has instructed all the States and Union Territories to strengthen the monitoring of Dairy Analogues, the products that contain non-milk ingredients that mimic the milk, either partially or completely, and which cannot be classified as milk or milk products under FSSAI regulations, throughout March.
The objective of FSSAI is to combat food adulteration and mislabeling during peak demand for dairy products. Its continued focus on Dairy Analogues maintains the product standards and labeling practices that facilitate consumers in choosing authentic dairy products.
In order to remain compliant with food safety regulations, FSSAI has mandated rigorous testing and inspection of Dairy Analogues.
This involves thorough scrutiny of labels to prevent any kind of treachery regarding the nature of the products being sold. The regulator's efforts are a part of an ongoing monthly surveillance strategy to uphold food safety standards in the market.
