GirishGirish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Energy, has been elected as the Chair of Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) India, following his earlier appointment as Vice-Chair of GWEC in April. This leadership role positions Tanti to spearhead GWEC India's efforts in collaboration with national and state governments, aimed at bolstering India's wind energy sector. GWEC emphasized the importance of policy frameworks and momentum-building initiatives to maximize India's potential in both onshore and offshore wind energy.

India, currently the world's fourth-largest wind market with 46 GW of onshore capacity, holds significant promise as a global wind energy manufacturing hub. Tanti's strategic leadership within GWEC is expected to further catalyze growth and innovation in the sector.

Ben Backwell, CEO of GWEC, highlighted India's vast potential across onshore and offshore wind segments and emphasized GWEC's commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to drive continued expansion. GWEC, headquartered in Belgium, boasts a membership of over 1,500 companies and institutions spanning more than 80 countries. Its diverse membership includes manufacturers, developers, suppliers, research bodies, and renewable energy associations, all pivotal in advancing wind energy globally.

Tanti's election underscores Suzlon's continued influence and commitment to shaping the future of renewable energy in India and beyond. His leadership will play a pivotal role in steering policy dialogues and fostering partnerships essential for sustaining India's momentum in the global wind energy landscape.
