Girish Tanti Takes Charge as IWTMA Chairman
The Vice Chairman of Suzlon, Girish Tanti has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA). This has happened at the Annual General Meeting of IWTMA that took place on 25th October 2024 at the Chennai Trade Centre. Nordex Country Head (VP India) Saravanan Manickam has been appointed Vice Chairman-cum-Secretary, and Windar Renewable Energy CEO K Bharathy will take up the post of Treasurer.
He also underscored the urgent necessity to address climate change and underlined that in order to achieve the goal of reducing temperature rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius by the world, its renewable energy capacity would need to triple by 2030. He noted that the ambition of India has always been very high to source half of its energy from renewables; indeed, by 2030, the wind energy sector is being targeted for achieving 100 GW and as of today, its installed capacity is about 47 GW. The growth has to reach a higher number of 53 GW from there.
Tanti emphasized the need for a strong manufacturing ecosystem in India to reach the country's net-zero ambitions and to position it as a global supply chain hub. Continued government support through positive policies, incentives, and initiatives will be indispensable to unlock the sector's full potential, he added.
The ET MSME Awards are also open for nominations, which should reach by 30 November, 2024.
