Goa CM Pramod Sawant Launches GURU to Boost Innovation in Biotech and Tech
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the Goa University Research Park Unit (GURU) initiative under the UniGoa Knowledge and Innovation Foundation. The program, aimed at fostering innovation and start-ups, was introduced alongside the distribution of sanction letters to teams selected under the Hand Holding and Start-Up Scheme 2023-24.
Taking to social media, Sawant announced that the GURU initiative has attracted an investment of Rs 12.85 crore to establish cutting-edge facilities and advanced equipment. These resources are dedicated to supporting young innovators in biotechnology, healthcare, information technology, and electronics.
“I am glad to inaugurate the Goa University Research Park Unit (GURU) under the UniGoa Knowledge and Innovation Foundation and distribute the sanction letters to the teams. The initiative, with an investment of Rs 12.85 crore, has established state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to foster innovation”, Sawant said. He emphasized that the GURU initiative symbolizes the knowledge and mentorship required to drive Goa’s progress in these critical fields.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including Vice Chancellor Harilal Menon and Education Secretary Prasad Lolyekar. Sawant praised the collaborative efforts of Goa University and the Directorate of Higher Education for launching this visionary program.
CM Sawant also expressed his confidence in the GURU initiative’s potential to nurture young talent and foster start-ups in sectors such as bio-engineering, agriculture, healthcare, and electronics. “I am confident that GURU will play a pivotal role in incubating start-ups and fostering innovation, contributing significantly to societal advancement”, he added.
The Chief Minister congratulated Goa University and extended his best wishes for the successful execution of the initiative, hoping it would help shape a brighter future for Goa’s youth and innovation landscape.
