Goldman Sachs Elevates 35 Executives to MD Position
Goldman Sachs has elevated 35 executives to managing director across its offices in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. With effect from January 1, 2024, the beginning of the company's fiscal year, these people will be promoted to MD positions. As per a statement released by the US-based financial services and investment organisation, the 2023 batch of promotions to the MD level in India is the highest ever. This is attributed to the firm's increasing investment in the country as well as India's influence and contributions to enterprises worldwide.
In the Mumbai office, there were four promotions, 26 in the Bengaluru office, and five in Hyderabad. Women make up about 17% of those in promotions. Approximately 14% come from engineering, while 60% are from finance-related functions. The company promoted 29 managing directors in India during the 2021 MD promotion cycle. This year, 5.8% of the MD class is from India, up from 4.7% in 2021. Despite a 5.4% decrease in the size of the worldwide MD promotion class (compared to 2021), the number of MD promotions from India has increased by 16.6%.
In 2023, 608 people were promoted to MDs worldwide, with 31% of those persons being women. This represents the largest percentage of women in this class ever. There will be 2,775 MDs overall in the company, or 6% of all employees worldwide. Globally, 45,900 experts work for Goldman Sachs. Including the new managing directors, there would be 92 MDs in India. India is the home base for around 8,000 personnel.
