According to an official order, the government has chosen Ravneet Kaur as the Chairperson of the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
Since Ashok Kumar Gupta stepped down as Chairperson of the Competition Commission in October 2022, there has been no full-time Chairperson.
Sangeeta Verma, a CCI member, has been functioning as Chairperson since October of last year.
According to the decision dated May 15, Ravneet Kaur, a 1988 Punjab cadre IAS officer, shall be appointed for a period of five years from the date of taking charge or till the date of achieving the age of 65 years or until further orders, whichever is the earlier.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is India's primary national competition regulator. It is a statutory entity within the Ministry of Corporate Affairs that is in charge of executing the Competition Act, 2002 in order to promote competition and prevent acts that have a significant unfavourable effect on competition in India. The CCI investigates incidents in which there is a negative impact on competition.
CCI also permits mergers under the legislation to ensure that two merging businesses do not dominate the market.
