Gujarat Earns Title of India's 'Petro Capital'
Gujarat has been acclaimed as India's 'petro capital' due to notable establishments like the Jamnagar refinery, the world's largest grassroots oil refinery, and the OPaL petrochemical complex in Bharuch district. Officials emphasize the significance of Reliance Industries Ltd's Jamnagar refinery, renowned for processing 1.4 million barrels of crude per day. Within this complex are some of the world's largest units, including the fluidised catalytic cracker, coker, alkylation, paraxylene, polypropylene, refinery off-gas cracker, and petcoke gasification plants.
Gujarat's CM, Bhupendra Patel, highlighted the state's impactful petrochemical industry, stressing its role in realizing PM Narendra Modi's vision. He noted Gujarat's chemical and petrochemical sector's remarkable and sustainable growth, surpassing that of all other states.
At the 2019 Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS), an MoU worth Rs 3,000 crore was signed for a bio-refinery in the Dahej Petroleum, Chemicals, and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR). Subsequently, in 2022, another MoU of Rs 7,000 crore was inked for chemical manufacturing in Dahej, according to officials. The 10th edition of VGGS, themed 'Gateway to the Future,' is set to occur in Gandhinagar from January 10 to 12 next year.
